SAN FRANCISCO – A federal appeals court put same-sex weddings in California on hold indefinitely Monday while it considers the constitutionality of the state's gay marriage ban.

The decision, issued by a three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, trumps a lower court judge's order that would have allowed county clerks to begin issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples on Wednesday.

Lawyers for the two gay couples that challenged the ban said Monday they would not appeal the panel's decision on the stay to the Supreme Court.

The homophiles are crowing that the Prop 8 defenders may not have “standing” to appeal. Has anyone considered that if Whitman, who says she opposes same-sex “marriage,” is elected Governor in November, that she will be able to give “standing” to the side for marriage?

Yes, it's temporary, but a tremendous victory for the family values warriors. As a result, same-sex couples CAN'T "wed;" any that would have been allowed to would create judicial havoc just as the CA Supreme Ct. did in allowing sodomite "marriage" in 2008 with the implications of a Prop 8 victory pending.

I believe sanity will prevail in the long run. This November will be a start.

Let's hope for a miracle -- that the Ninth Circus upholds Prop 8 and the SCOTUS doesn't take an appeal.

This will only defer the inevitable. I say get it out in the open, to the top, and get it over with now. If homosexual "marriage" is mandated by the courts, we can then put our energies into enacting a federal constitutional amendment defining marriage, as we should have done in 2006. If the USSC finds its sanity and affirms marriage to be what it is, then the homoperverts have lost for generations and the tide will have turned. They can go the way of bell bottoms and afros.

Yes, I noticed that! He even built up to it with a contrived lead-in. I can’t help but wonder if he got the idea from visiting Free Republic?
