U.S. News and World Reports just released their U.S. university rankings for 2011 and the big shock is that Harvard just took sole possession of number 1 away from Princeton.
But the big question is whether all this fancy education is actually worth it.
We're returning to Payscale's rankings of colleges based on return on investment and comparing them to the US News and World Reports rankings.
We've taken the top 20 schools from Payscale, based on ROI over a 30 year period, after graduating from undergrad study at the university, and provided U.S. News and World Rankings beside it.
We've also included the U.S. News and World rankings, for you to compare.
Note: The Payscale rankings do not include careers like law or medicine, which require additional degrees. No graduate who has received an additional degree is included in the calculations. The schools are ranked by the dollar amount 30-year return on investment, not by their overall ROI percentage.

Majority of those are propaganda centers for the liberal elites. Wouldn’t send my sons, if I had the money. Send your child and get back a commie. No thanks.
Not on the list but I saw a list of the most overrated colleges and universities. #1 on the list was Brown University. I’d agree with that.
Too much drinking in the stands at that game.
Not a patch on the North Koreans.
My husband got a Chemical Engineering degree from Oklahoma State University, my brother in law got Veterinarian degree from same U, our daughter got degree in HydroGeology from University of Texas, and they all do QUITE WELL! I think your degree that you get is more important that which school you go to.
Pretty cool! They ought to repeat that at the next DNC national convention!
Yep.
Sent a smart Christian conservative to Berkeley.
Got back a fruit loop.
But he’s coming back around - a little bit.
Really sucks when you have “National Champions in 1890, 1898, and 1899”.
OSU...has a great Vet School.
It was trade school for me, then the military.
Priceless.
Have two relatives that went to Berkerko U.
One got a BS in Foreign Film...the other in Dance, or something useless.
Both have no job's...one lives back at home. And she's 25-26 yrs old.
The crazy thing is...she's not a moron, she's smart! But bad choices.....
Short version of the list: go to an engineering school.
(Of course it helps if you have the smarts and the self-discipline to pass an actual engineering curriculum)
Also, if you have the choice, go to the Colorado School of Mines that’s rated 27th, not 32nd.
(And try not to spend too much time at the tasting room in the Coors Brewery nextdoor).
Both my girls went off the reservation...a bit. But came back to plumb.
Yes OSU has great vet school. John graduated there in the 1960s.
OSU also has great engineering school. And UT has the Jackson School of GeoSciences. Great schools for smart students. My major wasn’t so impressive! My husband and daughter got all those scientific genes!
MIT, Cal Tech, Harvard, Harvey Mudd....Harvey Mudd?????
