U.S. preparing to ease travel restrictions to Cuba
Washington comPost ^ | 8/18/2010 | Mary Beth Sheridan

The White House is preparing measures that would expand opportunities for Americans to travel to Cuba and send money there, congressional and Obama administration officials said Tuesday.

The measures would make it easier for Americans to get U.S. government licenses for cultural, educational and sports exchanges, according to congressional aides briefed on the new policy. They would not end the longtime economic embargo or the ban on U.S. tourists visiting the island.

The changes would restore a policy from the Bill Clinton administration that encouraged "people-to-people" contacts with residents of the Communist-ruled nation, officials said. Such visits were limited by the Helms-Burton Act of 1996 and later restricted further by the George W. Bush administration.

Again total disregard for the law by this administration regime.

This could backfire. All of the “Girls Gone Wild” college pinhead types will head on down to Cuber for “spring break” and find out what a utopia Mikey Moore/Fidel Castro really have down there.

Unreal... that is all I can say. Well I could say more, what good would it do? We all know what is going on. November!

I don’t have a problem with this one. I’ve never understood how my country can deny me the right to travel wherever I want, or stop commercial airlines from having the right to fly to Cuba.

One step at a time, right Obammy? Hey, when's the PUBLIC OPTION gonna happen?.. Right after the current ObammyCare structure fails?

Hopefully we will head in the direction of free travel. It’s the one and probably only issue I can agree with Hussein on

There is one good thing about this: it will be easier for the Cuban-Americans to sneak in some assassins.

If persons do go to this particular country, they should try to avoid renting and driving an automobile. Canadians who have been to Cuba, avoiding a bit of the winter and all, waxed lyrical about it. Needless to say they were carefully ensconced in certain areas.

A Canadian lad, 19 years was driving a rental vehicle. He was struck by a truck at an intersection. All four Canadians shaken and taken to hospital and then released. A trial then will take place. The Cubans did not say he was guilty. He was forced to stay in his hotel at 90 dollars per day. After three months his family had ran through 30,000 dollars including legal fees.

They are not rich. The Canadian government bureaucrats took their sweet time (none of our business etc). Well, hats off to the bloomin' press. The last resort and they got things going. The family just got the lad back last week, He kissed the old maple leaf flag on the runway. He had to promise to return when the trial takes place.

The family now agonizing as to what to do. Should he break his word or go back when they call? A Cuban prison would be a hell on earth of course. Once again, it might be 999 times out of a 1000, one has a wonderful time in these countries. For the odd time out, may heaven help the tourist.

I can recomend an exotic land for Canadians to travel to in the winter. Everything there (if you behave yourself). It is called America.

Trouble is with citizens demanding the wonderful freedoms which we do enjoy, is that some of them think that the due process of law is a God given right. A little overstatement on my part possibly. Yes, by all means take advantage of the freedoms we have.

A little preachy on my part, but again and again we have instances of citizens, both Canadian and American, enjoying playing the multi-cultural ambassadors. They jaunt off to various foreign countries. Again most times they may make innocent fools of themselves, doing an exotic dance or two. They may even come back to their own country and claim how much more superior the visited country is.

Then comes the occasion when the odd persons have done absolutely nothing wrong. Just offended some local laws. They are then seized. Ah, the screaming and demanding their "rights". One can imagine the weary bureaucrat being pilloried. Yet another citizen in deep doggy doo.

Waxing eloquent with a Crown Royal in hand.

Americans would be FREE to travel to their desired destination? What is this country coming to?

Yea, cause ya know…

You just can’t find anything like that here.

Yep, nothing to do in places that don’t rob Americans,

Just look at these people.

Miserable aren’t they?

I bet they would give anything to take a chance on rotting in a Cuban jail so they can say they went there, huh?

Pathetic, ain’t it?

Having a tought time getting really worked up about this, when at least 90% of FReepers could give a rip about sending America’s industrial base to China.

Some perspective, would be nice.
