Dr. Laura Schlessinger chose her words more carefully this time.
The longtime AM radio fixture says that she will pull the plug on The Dr. Laura Program at the end of the year, a week after repeatedly using the N-word while taking a call on the air from a black woman who wanted to discuss her interracial marriage.
She made the announcement during an appearance on Larry King Live.
Here's her rationale:
"My contract is up for my radio show at the end of the year and I've made the decision not to do radio anymore," Schlessinger told King, who also happens to be on his way out this year (for less incendiary reasons).
"The reason is I want to regain my First Amendment rights. I want to be able to say what's on my mind and in my heart and what I think is helpful and useful without somebody getting angry, some special interest group deciding this is the time to silence a voice of dissent and attack affiliates, attack sponsors. I'm sort of done with that."
She's not retiring or quitting, she added, but rather, hopes to be "stronger and freer to say the things that I believe need to be said for people in this country."
Schlessinger apologized for her verbal gaffe the day after it happened, admitting that she did "the wrong thing."
"I didn't intend to hurt people, but I did. And that makes it the wrong thing to have done...I was attempting to make a philosophical point, and I articulated the N-word all the way out—more than one time. And that was wrong. I'll say it again—that was wrong."
No it wasn't, but it is now (that you marginalized yourself).
Yes, this is another example of the forces of political correctness launching an attack, and the target of the attack gives in.
Rather ironic that she stumbled into a career of giving out advice when her personal life was so totally messed up and a complete sham.
Weird —never had her figured for being this weak.

I used to listen to her long ago, and thought she gave out some good advice here and there ... but then my hearing went ... *smiles*
Frankly, I couldn't listen to her show past the first five minutes, back when it was on WABC in the mornings. Her opening segments had interesting bits, but I never liked the callers or how she dealt with them. If she helped them, fine, but it wasn't interesting radio.

This woman has no clue about the First Amendment.
The changes in her mannerisms and positions were familiar to me, and I strongly suspect that she was raped.
More than anything, she needs prayer.
Unless she’s claiming that government is preventing her from expressing herself, she has no First Amendment claim. Whether a corporate decision, pressure from a boycott of sponsors, etc.,no First Amendment rationale applies.
You would think she’d understand that.
Why go on Larry King barely alive and divorcing again, she always goes on his show.
She must be nearing retirement anyway, she’s been on the air for what 25 years or so. Maybe she can guest host on the VIEW.

She always presumes to know the whole story after 30 seconds talking to one of the involved parties.
Read her biography. Multiple adulterous affairs with married men and destroying other families. Posing for pornographic photos. A child conceived during an affair. She rejected her father, mother and sister. Her mother was dead for 2 months before anyone found the body and she didn’t shed a tear. She went from Christianity to Judaism, then Orthodox Judaism and back to fake Christianity. Who knows what else this hypocrite did. Yeah, this is a person you want advice from.
