SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Protesters upset over proposed cuts to California's budget blocked a major road near the Capitol in downtown Sacramento Wednesday afternoon.
Sacramento police arrested 22 people on misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest. Sgt. Norm Leong said one person was booked into jail on suspicion of inciting disorder, while the others were cited and released.
The intersection of 11th and L streets was blocked by about 100 demonstrators, who set up tents in the middle of L Street.
They also placed stretchers in the road.
Right in the middle of the street, the protesters set up an effigy of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger with a sign around its neck saying "Cuts Kill."
Organizers said they planned civil disobedience to get the governor's attention about his proposed budget cuts to social services.
"People need to see this is what's going to happen if these cuts go through," demonstrator Robin Earth said. "I know it's against the law, but what should be against the law is people being made homeless."
L Street reopened just after 4 p.m. in time for rush-hour traffic.
No injuries were reported.
I think they want more taxes not less. A untea party.
Give the homeless the choice of working the fields in the
Central Valley, or a place in one of the tent camps
we could be setting up in, oh say, Dunnigan, north of Davis.
Hot hot hot!
Hire Sheriff Joe Arpaio as consultant on proper tent cit management techniques!!!
“what should be against the law is people being made homeless.”
Deport the illgal workers and you will lots of work and homes.
Saw the clip, it was a planned protest by professional disabled activists, which tends to break down between wheelchair warriors, middle-aged spinsters and a smattering of kollege kiddies.
No government employees, nobody there was fat enough.
Beck has frequently said that this kind of thing is coming and it will get worse and worse and spread across the country if we don’t turn things around.
The homeless are there for a reason. Most of them are lazy bums or drug addicts who mooch off our tax dollars via welfare to be kept alive. Why should I have to pay for some lazy homeless guy with no work ethic?
since when is 11TH AND L a major anything ?
these are side streets .
the local sactown lefty media is so sorry.
If I'm not mistaken, that's within view, and 100yds of the Capitol Dome.
That’s the most fascinating part of democracy. Since the welfare sucklings have nothing better to do, they’re free to go and protest every time their income line stutters. Meanwhile, people with jobs is too busy generating that money to get out and scream for weeks.
the area roads are so simple laid out so its hard to block any road because there are multiple side streets in midtown. the state has moved most support offices all over the county to ease traffic flow. the capital area is used mostly events.
Run 'em over.
The bloated parasitic socialists that have hijacked this country won’t stop until the host is dead, the ticks of society take to the streets and cry out in demand for more blood
Arrested for resisting arrest??????
I am presuming the protesters were not SEIU or ACORN.
If they were of the above mentioned, their protests would have been facilitated.
Greece redux...
There was a time in this country when you were not qualified to vote in some local elections (city, county, state) unless you were a property owner.
