Dilma Rousseff, from the Workers Party, seems to be opening a significant advantage over the other candidates in the race for the Brazilian presidency. On Tuesday, August 17, the Vox Populi Institute released a poll for TV Band and the web portal, iG, showing Dilma 16 percentage points ahead of her nearest rival, José Serra from the PSDB (Party of the Brazilian Social Democracy).

I just read elsewhere that Brazil was “booming”.
That’ll end now that a “worker’s party” minion will be elected.
Heh, exporting liberalism is our only hope...perhaps we can export all the libs thereby ruining our competition and raising our national IQ by a tremendous amount.

yep, Lula has embraced petrodollars
They’re exporting so much raw materials to China, that they almost can’t screw it up. Although I guess big labor strikes would help screw it up.
Dilma has been fully bought and paid for by the oligarchic business community in Belo Horizonte for over 20 years. There is not much to fear in regards to her going on some sort of socialist redistribution crusade, she will take just enough from the oligarches to make sure the oligarches can continue to placate and control the society, under the instruction and with the blessings of the Brasilian oligarches and largest corporations.
Not necessarily so horribly left wing. The incumbent Worker’s Party president, Lula disappointed a lot on the American left by being very pragmatic, and staying the course with a lot of economic stability programs. Just checking out Wikipedia, I find that there’s been a split in Lula’s party, and Dilma represents the more moderate part. Dilma is seen as cooler than Lula to Chavez’s Venezuela and Bolivia.
That said, the Worker’s Party is Clintonite, and I’d obviously rather than Reaganite party won.
Does this mean the satire ban is working?
;-)
Yes. ;-)
The current boom has happened under a Workers Party president — Lula, who’s been in office since 2003. Not saying he’d be my choice, but he’s been far less of a disaster than everyone expected.
Agreed, “Big Kev” (the Brasilian translation of your screen name. You must have made some Brasileira very happy -lol!) Lula has far exceeded my expectations for Brasil. I expected a full blown socialist revolution but instead, he took the middle road and grew the Brasilian economy, fortified the real and made Brasil very attractive for the international business community.
Admission- I would vote for Lula for President over mccain. :/
I was going to say the same thing in my first post.
And, yes, the gatas have never complained!
