"Back at the patrol base, Sgt. Johnny Bailey watched a live video feed of the scene at the bridge and tried to find out which way the Marine had fallen. "That way I'll know the direction of the shot," he said."
How someone falls or reacts to being shot is not always an indicator of where the shot is coming from. If the video shows the round impacting somewhere on the ground or richocheting off something, that would be a better indicator.

Unfortunately he's been dead for more than 10 years now.

Send a sniper to kill a sniper.
Or a C-130 and a Daisy Cutter.

Sounds like we need to bring back sustained artillery bombardments.
Find out the snipers general location and level everything withing a half mile radius.
Of course that assumes the existence of a command chain and ROE that values the lives of his men over the lives of the enemy.

Sounds like a good bit of target exercise for the next line of UAVs with a killing laser on board, speed of light, no trajectory loss except through a haze and no sound.
Just a nice neat little millimeter sized charred through and through hole through the thinking matter.

I gather that the general public in that city is less than cooperative. If that is the case then the BS ROI’s of “winning them over” should be declared null and void and they should lay waste to the whole dang area. A blanket of white phosphorous would send a nice message. Fkc the liberal scum who would cry for the muslim peasants. They’re all the enemy in a city such as that one.

The US Army has the best shooters as per the win of national inter service competition. They have the best equipment also. I expect they will have drones and satellites watching for the sniper. There is radar to can pick up bullets that they can use and other Viet Nam technology. I expect they will have them soon.

Carpet Bomb.
Dillon M134D will do less damage if you have a direction.

I like the Daisy Cutter option better... But 15,000 lbs. of HE in proximity to civilians and less than 600 yards out, might put a damper on that...

Could be a Chechen. They usually hit what they shoot at with uncanny skill.

I love snipers — when they’re ours. Luckily most of the opponent “snipers” are just fools taking pot shots out of windows. Scary to actually get a long-range pro. Send in two counter-sniper teams. There’s no way this sniper will survive.
To: antiRepublicrat
You can bet a Force Recon or Seal team is already working on it.

That’s how you deal with a sniper.
