Chinese Claims to Okinawa Gain Support Among Historians

There are increasing voices among Chinese historians claiming territorial rights over Okinawa, the Japanese island where the U.S. has a massive military base.

Japan's Mainichi Shimbun on Wednesday said some Chinese historians argue that Okinawa, when it was the Ryukyu Kingdom, flourished thanks to trade with China and was essentially a part of it.

In a conference in Beijing in December last year, some insisted that the annexation of the Ryukyu Islands by the Meiji government in 1879 and the U.S.' return of Okinawa to Japan in 1972 was invalid under international law.

The reason this view is gaining support, according to the Mainichi Shimbun, is because China believes it appeals to the island's people at a time when complaints of the continuing U.S. presence there are growing.

so by this logic, Canada should be a part of the US because it flourishes due to trade with the US?

Yes, absolutely, I am sure the Okinawans are just waiting for the chance to toss out the Americans and bring in arrogant and brutal Chinese overlords.

Oh, my goodness.

Actually, China may think U.S. is a part of China because it flourishes due to trade with China, and China has lots of Treasury holdings.

Mark my words. If China is left unchecked, every country which has a Chinatown in it would be claimed by China as its territory. This is not a joke.

Adverse possession. It’s a bit late to be trying to claim prior ownership now.

China should then be part of the USA as it flourishes due to US trade?

I wouldn’t abandoning Europe. God only knows we need troops on our southern border but we need to maintain a military presence in Asia. Too many critical trade routes, and too much industry to let any foreign power grab.

China is going to be the major headache I predicted.

Welcome to global paradise free traitors...

The nation that thinks it deserves everything in it’s vicinity, will sooner or later try to take possession.

Our young men and women will die to prevent it.

Who could have seen this coming?

China has the same claim on Vietnam. The Ming dynasty reasserted Chinese control in 1407 when they reinstated the Tran dynasty.

Here ya go China and ya don't have to row any boats to get at 'em.

The folks of Okinawa have historically spoken their unique dialect of Japanese. They chose to mimic Japan and changed their highway system to match Japan’s left-side orientation back in 1975, when the prefecture was officially returned to full government control by Japan.

It is a fact that the Japanese tend to stereotype the Okinawans as backwards farm-folks and primitive fishermen.

But Chinese? That is a stretch only China would float. The Okinawans would not reciprocate that sentiment.
