The most destructive gap for President Barack Obama is not the Republican lead on the generic congressional ballot, or even a job disapproval that has surpassed approval it is the gap between aspiration and reality. The Manhattan mosque controversy showed the problem in compressed form. First came the Obama of high-toned principle (largely the right principle, in my view). Then a politically motivated recalibration. Then a scrambling staff explanation. Then an embarrassed silence, since it is difficult to clarify the clarification of a clarification. Then the president's regretful assertion of no regrets.
It was more than a lapse. From the firing of Shirley Sherrod, to the obsession with Fox News, to lashing the professional left, the Obama administration engages in a daily hypocrisy. It attacks the sound and fury of the cable news cycle while being entirely captive to its rhythms.
This gap between ideals and practice is a defining narrative of the administration. Obama once promised, for example, to end the divisive food fight in Washington. Apparently there is an exception for frozen beverages. In a new stump speech, he says: We're slipping and sliding and sweating, and the other side, the Republicans, they're standing there with their Slurpees watching us.
In Seattle, the president of the United States pantomimed drinking a Slurpee to mock his opponents. A campaigner such as Ronald Reagan could draw political blood with a wink and a smile. Obama's partisan rhetoric manages to be prickly, mean-spirited and unfunny.
On the campaign trail, he taunts and whines. He does not charm. But this much can be said: The rhetoric fits the message.
Having spent beyond the dreams of Franklin Roosevelt to produce a 9.5 percent unemployment rate, Obama has reached an ideological dead end.

Let me be perfectly clear, Imam Obama is an idiot.....
I have always said that it’s never wise (or productive) to send a boy to do a man’s job.
I see no reason to think differently.
The problem with leftists is that they have no principles, only positions. When their positions are rejected they have nothing to fall back on in a crisis except whining that the other guy did it.
It’s uh, umm, er, unprecedented.
He’s not on the ballot....and he really doesn’t care what the people think. He’s got an agenda to exact on the U.S.
I recall, years ago, Barry was barnstorming the country giving countless teleprompter readings to laughing, slavish audiences where he would endlessly mock the evil Bush for not hunting down Bin Laden. Barry said he would hunt him down at the beginning of his administration. Well here we are two years later and Barry doesn’t seem too concerned about it. In fact, he’s so unconcerned that he’s on a six month vacation tour of luxury resorts.
What will he do to try and recover the adoration of the people? One can only guess, but we are likely to be very sorry we ever elected such a fool for President.
schu
As another Freeper said, “this President moonwalks more than Michael Jackson.”
He will only be able to stay in power by either completely corrupting the electoral process or by force.
Oh, and BTW, several analysts on teevee today let it slip they thought unemployment definitely was headed for 10%.
This was on the business channels.
IMHO the Obama adminstration (and by extension Reid/Pelosi) is over.
You can feel it, unless they cheat, start a war, or collapse the economy, they are going to get their @$$es handed to them politically so soundly it will be the 2nd American Revolution.
Sen. Santorum noted today on Bill Bennett's show that 3 or 4 of the Senate races are special elections and if the GOP'ers win these, within days they will be sworn in. That changes the Senate makeup so that Cloture is darn near impossible and it stops them, cold in their tracks for a lame duck session.
Which leads me to a new theory. Obama knows at this point he sucks and it is over. Why is he and Michelle living it up? Because they are doing it while they can before they pull what is akin to the old (bad) trick on waitresses, i.e. a chew and screw.
FWIW, I think he is going to walk away from the job, or be asked too, I really do.
“So he is left with attacking Republicans.”
It’s more than just attacking Republicans. He and his supporters are now attacking Americans regardless of their political affiliation. If you oppose the mosque as do about 70% of Americans, you are a religious bigot and hate muslims. If you support the Arizona immigration law as do about 70% of Americans, you are a racist bigot and hate hispanics. If you oppose the runaway spending as do about 60% of Americans, then you hate poor people.
Most Americans are catching on to just how out of touch the ‘progressives’ are with America and are getting sick and tired of hearing just how racist, bigoted, and hateful their ‘leaders’ believe them to be.
He needs to get baptized.
One interesting thing I've noticed in watching a lot of business television. A year ago the elites were barely able to contain their disdain at the Tea Party. Now they are openly -- and quite literally -- banking on those "pathetic" Tea Partiers to show up in droves and SAVE THE COUNTRY in November.
I kid you not. Over and over again some big CEO or fancy economist or analyst will be addressing the uncertainty and mess from Washington and then say something to indicate that "we hope this changes in November," "this might turn around in November."
Like the old saw, "it's Tommie this and Tommie that . . ."
We, the Tea Partiers, were dopes in their eyes until their feet were in the fire and they realized, hey, we sure hope all those embarrassing WalMart shoppers turn out in droves in the mid-turns and put a stop to Obama and his clown posse.
I don't have a problem with this; it's par for the course. But it is rather humorous and vindicating. And it does indeed show that WE THE PEOPLE got to git er done in November.
Who’s to say we’ll even have a ballot next time. He has an agenda and it’s not finished, yet.
I think he is going to walk away from the job, or be asked too, I really do.
I hope you are correct.
