Bloomberg Mulling Over Smoking Ban At NYC Parks, Beaches
CBS New York ^ | August 22, 2010

NEW YORK (CBS 2) – From the inside-out, there may be a new “no-go” when it comes to smoking.

Mayor Bloomberg’s anti-smoking crusade could be coming to a city park or public beach near you, a plan plenty of people say crosses the line, reports CBS 2′s Dave Carlin.

CBS 2 has learned that Mayor Bloomberg is looking at a possible smoking ban for all city parks and public beaches.

“Now you’re gonna stop me from smoking in the park? Where am I gonna smoke at?” West Side resident Anthony Cintron said.

“What’s next? It will be something else in six months,” said another New Yorker.

The new measure would widen the current smoking ban – in bars, subways, buildings, playgrounds and other public places – to include some 29,000 acres of park land and 14 miles of beaches.

“Non-smokers can smell smoke from miles and miles away, so ban it!” Cynthia Keller-Bee, of the Upper East Side, said.

The Muslim 9/11 attack caused a lot of smoke.... The mosque Bloomberg thinks is just fine will help people remember the smoke.

“Non-smokers can smell smoke from miles and miles away, so ban it!”

A crazy person. She lives in NYC, the fresh air capital of the world, if only they could get rid of the eeeeeevil smokers.

I love New York, but I thank God every day that I don’t live there any more.

I’m a non-smoker and have never been bothered by smoke in public places—restaurants and so forth. I’ve never been able to figure out why libs get this worked up about this specific topic.

Why stop there? Go ahead and ban cigarettes in NYC. Should be easy to do since “smoking is bad for you”.

I’m a non-lib and have never been bothered by libs in public places—restaurants and so forth. .

Libs always are bitching about something, if they cannot bitch and control others
they are having a bad day.

I have often thought that best way deal with these folks, is to ask what ever vice they have and then ban it outright

It’s not just that, they’re all about control, sure but in THIS case they practically drool when discussing it. I have had to deal with them in the past when I worked in food service as kitchen help, and more than once I said “Why do you care so much? Just don’t go there” and they’d RAGE about smoking as they didn’t about any number of issues they’re into. It’s like they were each bugged by smoking once or twice and now they want the world to suffer for it.

The problem is their only vice is “Trying to make other people do what I want,” which is too popular among politicians for it to be banned.

I do novenas thanking the Lord that I live in New York City. I love it totally to death. People sitting in the little bus shelters smoking, not waiting for the bus, just enjoying the view and taking up the seats—as I experienced tonight—just all of it. The chutzpah, and the toasty feeling when they notice you and give you a seat and put the cigarette out. Times Square, which stole my heart when I was a child and has never given it back. All of it.

They’re already over ten dollars a pack. The tourists go nuts when they hand over a ten and don’t get any change.

LOL, I hear you, NYC is by far the greatest city in the world, I’ll never deny that!

Unrelated to this thread - I won’t be there tomorrow at the Mosque protest, but I will definatley be there on 9/11.

Good luck tomorrow, please know that I am with you all in spirit!

This just came up too fast, and I have been working my tushie off for Anna Little’s campaign. Today we walked door to door in Middlesex, NJ. I was “on the streets” from 9:30 to 5:30 so I am bushed.

See you soonest!

This woman is full of chit. I’m a non-smoker and most of the time, I can’t smell a thing.

Bloomberg is an idiot.

It didn’t really come up that fast, it’s just that no one wanted to post it on FR for some reason, until Eternal Vigilance finally did. We really need a new Tri-State leader to carry the ball on FR for these things.

I smoke. I am pretty allergic to some perfumes. Can perfumes be banned from public transportation?

But, under Bloomburqa.....you can build a shrine to Islamic Terrorism right next to the scene of the biggest Islamic Terrorist attack in US history.

Bloomburqa nothing more than a terrorist against NYers liberty and freedom
