No , it was her way of saying thank you. When he asked for her support, had she said no, I’d bet that you would have been the first one here calling her an ingrate. Some people look for the worst in others. Look at her record as an elected executive. It’s stellar. She’s the kind of politician we all say we want, a fiscal conservative, for small government, anti corruption , willing to risk everything . She’s not the enemy.
BTW, Hayworth hadn’t announced that he was running we she came out for McCain.
It was her way of saying "thank you suckers" to the Tea Party and conservatives generally.
I guarantee that had he asked for her support, and she had said no - that he would not have broadcast that. It would have opened up a whole can of worms about him. He would have said nothing, and she wouldn't have tarnished her creds with his endorsement. These things take place behind closed doors - McCain is a pro - he's not going to drag that kind of crap out into public.
He's a pro, and once again - he got one over on her.
Oh, come on now, don't fall into the "she's too stupid to know any better" defense. It was clear he was going to run, and if anything, it seems her endorsement was meant to discourage him from running, by making it clear to him that he would not have her support.
It is almost insulting to suggest that Palin had no idea Hayworth was running, or that she wouldn't have endorsed McCain had she known.
Palin endorsed McCain because, as she put it, she believed he was the best man for the job, and would be good for the country. Agree or disagree, but don't pretend she shouldn't be trusted to be truthful and knowledgeable about her own reasons for endorsing people.
