New Delhi: The Pentagon has recently reported that China has moved lethal medium-range Ballistic Missiles closer to the Indian border.
The potential Chinese military threat has been anticipated by India, which has now deployed a couple of strategic missile units in the East.
These units under the Strategic Forces Command that control India's nuclear arsenal have been moved under the Eastern Command recently.
The Indian Air Force, which first deployed its best fighter jets, the Sukhois, in Tezpur in Assam last year, has increased the number of planes in the area. The Air Force has also stepped up the pace of work on seven advance landing-grounds in Arunachal Pradesh which will soon be capable of handling bigger, fixed-wing transport planes.
The Army presence in Ladakh, in the Western sector, is being increased. An infantry brigade has been moved back here after a long gap.
India is also concentrating on quickly building 75 tactically and strategically important roads . They will eventually cost over Rs. 5,000 crore.

New Delhi, Aug. 24: In the wake of a recent Pentagon report that China is moving advanced CSS-5 ballistic missiles to areas close to the Sino-Indian border, New Delhi is clearly taking no chances.
The government is now ready to induct the nuclear-capable Agni-III ballistic missile — with a range of 3,000-3,500 km and capable of hitting targets in China — into the Indian armed forces. It is also in the process of acquiring 42 more Russian-origin Sukhoi-30 MKI frontline fighters to “populate” airbases at Tezpur and Chabua in Assam to bolster the eastern sector.
The government is also reportedly moving the strategic Agni-II missile inducted earlier to areas near the Chinese border. These have a range of around 2,000 km.
Extra land is reportedly being procured in West Bengal and elsewhere to deploy these missiles. India is also developing the Agni-V missile (with a range of 5,000 km) that could hit targets deep within China.
When contacted, Army sources on Tuesday denied that missile units had been moved to the Eastern Command due to the Chinese threat perception.
The government is also taking other steps, including raising two more Army mountain divisions (30,000 troops) that will probably be deployed on the China border.
The Cabinet Committee on Security is considering the proposal for further troops augmentation near the Sino-Indian border.
Did India just sent a three word message to China? did it say “Three Gorges Dam”!
It would seem to me that the Three Gorges Dam would be a very significant security risk in time of war. Big enough that it might serve to calm down the old men in Beijing concerning their plans of conquest.

Don't think the Chinese will be that stupid. After all, even the Vietnamese were above the Chinks' pay grade.
This is not the Indian Army of 1962. It is not the Indian voter of 1962. Anyone accepting any nonsense ferom either China or Paki will be booted out of office quicker than a flash. Musharraf found that out in 1998, He couldn't hold on to positions hundreds of feet above the Indian forces.
This is not Chinese army of 1962 either. They will whoop Indians into curry if they even dreamt of “tackling Chinese Army”.
Actually, it is unfair comparison. India needs to stay in AA ball. Chinese play in AAA, but dangerously close to ML.

The truth hurts, but it doesn’t make it less true. India is not going to go head-to-head against a country with an economy that is approximately 20-25 years more advanced and 5 times larger than their own.
The really sad thing is that the more India tries to play catch up by buying foreign military equipment the further behind it falls.
