Dan Quayle's son wins congressional primary

PHOENIX – The son of former Vice President Dan Quayle won the Republican primary for an Arizona congressional seat after a provocative campaign that had no shortage of drama.

Ben Quayle emerged from a crowded field Tuesday in the fight for an open seat in a Republican-leaning district in the Phoenix area. He drew on his family connections to raise more than $1.3 million — and made plenty of headlines along the way.

In a campaign ad, he called President Barack Obama "the worst president in history" and vowed to "knock the hell" out of Washington.

Quayle, 33, grew up in Indiana and Washington, D.C., and now works as a lawyer and managing director of a Scottsdale investment firm.

He has never held elected office, but he emerged as the top fundraiser and profited from name recognition that comes with being the son of the former Indiana senator and vice president.

One-time Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld contributed to his campaign and former President George H.W. Bush and his wife Barbara hosted a fundraiser.

The younger Quayle's candidacy irritated many Arizona politicians who had waited for years to see eight-term GOP Rep. John Shadegg retire, as he had announced in 2008 before being convinced by backers to run for one more term.

Quayle beat his closest challenger by about 5 percentage points.

He will take on Democrat Jon Hulburd, a Phoenix lawyer and businessman. Many believe the general election is a likely win for Republicans.

I “snipped” the nasty digs supplied by Yahoo and the AP. I wish young Ben the best of luck. He reminds me of his mother, Marilyn.

I love this soooooo much because in their attempt to sink his campaign by mocking and ridiculing him, the dolts in the media made it possible for him to actually breakout of the 10 man pack and win.

So laughably, ironically wonderful.

Funny how “family connections” are never mentioned when discussing Kerry, Kennedy, Pelosi or Clinton runs for office.

What could possibly differentiate those families from the Quayles to merit such different treatment from the MSM?

He was far from the most qualified conservative in the race.

How soon before the no talent cowards in the CommieMedia crucify him for allegedly misspelling the name of a food staple?

Meanwhile, large segments of the Democrat Party, (Congressional Black Caucus are you listening), couldn't pass your average, third grade US Geography quiz.

Jury is still out as far as I am concerned. Young Mr Quayle has demonstrated a distinct lack of candidness and complete honesty. His people need to remind him that the American public can forgive almost anything until you start pulling the “it depends on the definition of what ‘is’ is “ defense

I don’t know anything about him, but I’m glad he won just because of all the snide crap the lefties on MSNBC said about him. Eat it, Olbermann.

Besides just liking the guy and his positions, and so hoping for his victory, I hope for his victory for Dan Quayle’s sake. It would be a well deserved honor to have his son elected.

Loved his Campaign message per Obama. . .while many Repubs cringed; Ben did not go PC. Kudos to him; American’s are angry as hell and they want Leadership that shares their anger and their determination for ‘change’ that restores America; rather than ‘change’ that destroys it.
