I’ve known a number who did. Some were near and dear. Half of them are dead. All of them paid dearly for their excesses and aberrations - one way or another. Death, divorce, disease, sterility or pregnancy or some degree of madness, grief or remorse. Every single one.

There is a reason that songs like House of the Rising Sun, St. John’s Infirmary and others return again and again. There is a reason these songs are steeped in sorrow and warning.

God will always accept the repentant, but he is never mocked.
