I heard a story one time about the Seminoles in South Florida
when they wanted to erect a bingo parlor and the State said “no”.
The tribe quickly erected wooden barricades across U.S. Hwy 441/State Road 7
(which ran through their reservation) and began to collect tolls from passing cars.
Approval of the bingo parlor came quickly.
I wish I know if that story was true.

The last time the state tried to collect the tax, in 1997, protests erupted and tires were burned on the Thruway, shutting down a 30-mile stretch.

Violence is likely this time too.

I think it would be possible for the Oneida’s to shut down rt 90(the NY state Truway)and the Onandaga’s to shut down rt 81. I believe both of these highways cross the respective reservations.
