NRA declines to endorse Reid in Nevada Senate race
The Associated Press ^ | August 27, 2010 | Kevin Freking

Sen. Harry's Reid's support for President Barack Obama's Supreme Court nominees has cost him the endorsement of the National Rifle Association in his re-election bid. The NRA is a force in rural states like Nevada where many voters own guns and hunt. The absence of the NRA's blessing represents a setback that Reid's campaign was quick to address Friday by noting that NRA executive Wayne LaPierre once called him a "true champion of the Second Amendment." Christopher W. Cox, chairman of the NRA's Political Victory Fund, said Friday that the organization strongly opposed the confirmation of Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court, and it had warned lawmakers that the NRA would weigh that vote when it came to its endorsements.

NRA declines to endorse Reid in Nevada Senate race

What, was there a chance in a million that they would endorse Reid?

Angle is better on 2A issues than Paul, father and son. And they are 2A absolutists. Come Jan 2011, we may have 6 Senators that’d make Jesse Helms look moderate. Now, if we could add another 61 (impeach and convict) ...

Why will the NRA not endorse Sharron Angle.

Is the Republican guy soft on gun support?

Why is the NRA staying out completely?

What planet have you been on DoughtyOne? It’s not a “guy”. It’s the Tea Party backed lady, Sharron Angle.

I’ve asked the same question: Why is the NRA not endorsing Angle? DOES ANYBODY KNOW?

I knew Reid had solid opposition, but I haven’t followed closely who it was. I probably should have known. At one point I probably did read it, but had forgotten.

The NRA does some very strange things. This is just one more of them IMO.

I turn down membership in Acrimonious Agitators and Retarded Popinjays on a regular basis. I honestly cannot find one actual benefit to belonging.

"... The NRA didn't "slow things down". They actively tried their damnedest to force Levy and Gura to abandon the whole thing."

Be honest now.

Parker vs. DC was already in the DC Circuit Court before Justice Samuel Alito had been confirmed to the US Supreme Court. Don't blame the NRA because they can count.

The fact that DC foolishly appealed the Parker ruling which brought RKBA a victory in DC vs. Heller and McDonald vs. Chicago was something that wouldn't have happened had we got a stroke of luck on the high court.

You can thank George W. Bush for 14th Amendment incorporation of the 2nd Amendment's individual right to keep and bear arms due to his elevation of Alito to the solidly swing the pendulum in our direction.

The NRA had good right to be worried, and so were many of us here on FR who followed Parker from it's beginnings. It was a huge gamble that paid off.

You seem to have a strong pro-NRA viewpoint. It honestly always amazed me that with all the strength the NRA had in its members, the intense following of those members, and the general good will of the public—that the NRA never accomplished much of anything. Decades of no high profile litigation or legislative accomplishment—really why still
the need that these matters be addressed when so powerful?

It is obvious—this has always been a great fund raiser line and little else. Like most lobbying organzations the last thing desired is a solution—and loss of funds.

A former many-decades NRA member

God bless Mr Heston—and real American patriots

Thats exactly it. I mean I met fellow NRA members in the grocery store, talking about Reid.Thats a first!

They were all ready to bail if Reid was endorsed.

The masses of patriots are awakening, and even the NRA is affected by it.
