Ken Mehlman gay ? Online conservatives don’t seem to care much
Washington Examiner ^ | August 28, 2010 | CHARLIE SPIERING

Ken Mehlman is gay? Most right-leaning political junkies probably responded by asking, ‘Who is Ken Mehlman?’ or ‘Yeah, but who cares?’

Conservative bloggers either ignored the topic or pointed out that conservatives aren’t necessarily surprised or outraged by the news.

“I had absolutely no idea Ken Mehlman was gay, or existed,” wrote the Daily Caller’s Jim Treacher in response to the New York Times piece that marveled at the “muted reaction” of Republicans to the announcement.

The former RNC chairman and President Bush’s 2004 campaign manager announced that he was gay to the Atlantic’s Marc Ambinder, and also announced his intentions to support the case for same-sex marriage.

As Washington media columnist Howard Kurtz noted, Mehlman’s sexuality was an “open secret” in Washington and the news failed to surprise many of the people who knew him.

ok, maybe you could read what I wrote, or maybe comprehension isn’t your thing. What I said is that “Christians” who use Scriptures to condemn others make me feel filthier than any gay pride parade. You betcha. It’s not the place of “Christians” to condemn. That’s God’s job. Thank you very much.

Good lord. What a post....I would take Ken Mehlman over all the folks who cheat on their wives to run a political race. Didn’t he assist President Bush on the 2004 election? Guess what? President Bush won!

Christians and non-Christians have been on defense for 30 years running, trying to protect our children. Thanks goodness.

The days of dressing up anal sex in flowery civil rights language are over...as is teaching children that anal sex is normal and natural.

Because when young men (our sons) in their 30s and 40s are laying in the hospital bed, unable to retain their feces any longer...or dying, believe me, their families are not worried about being stereotyped or called a meanie by the leftwing media and the DNC.

I was saying to same thing, but you clearly said it very intellectually and concise than I did.

>>> Ah-64 Apache helicopters. I’ll have to think awhile to come up with a connection between sexual deviance and those.

gay blades ?

>>> Don’t like to burst your bubble but that issue is lost.

“This is not over. Not even close. “

It is over except the paperwork. If there is even one state with legal gay marriage, every state will be required to recognize it as per the Full Faith and Credit clause of the Constitution. And there are several such states now.

The United States Constitution trumps the local options by requiring recognition of the legal acts of other states, just as it did when restrictive state divorce laws were outflanked by people going out of state to divorce in Reno. Once divorced in Reno, you weren’t remarried when you returned to your original state regardless of the local laws. Your new legal status acquired in the out of state divorce had to be recognized and maintained in your home state.

I disagree with the Equal Protection arguments, but Full Faith and Credit cannot be ignored. Ultimately only a man/woman Federal Constitutional marriage amendment can block this, and that just isn’t in the cards. If it was it would have happened before now.

I’m in agreement with you. I’d say get rid of every last gay Republican.

All they have to do is keep their mouth shut about their gayness? That’s not what they’re doing. They’re working behind the scenes for gay marriage.

And gay marriage is not at all the same as skirt chasing, or even close.

Gayness is an extinctionary behavior.
Extinctionary behaviors are those that would cause the extinction of the human race if everyone did them.

I would argue that we should simply say that it’s bad public policy to encourage behaviors that would lead to the extinction of the human race.

They have a mental illness. They want to have sex with the wrong gender. No humans could be born if they did that. We should not encourage that.

I will say that our major argument, which is basically “God thinks it’s sick”, does not work with young people and country club Republicans, especially those in the northeast.

I’d rather we say that the gays are crazy, rather than immoral. Both arguments are right, but we live in a world where little kids are getting fed ritalin for acting up in class.

We feel bad that they have a mental illness and we encourage them to seek treatment. Gays are banding together with, grouping together with, transgendereds / transsexuals. And with them, it should be extremely easy to properly label them completely and totally crazy. Once transexuals are 100% considered obviously crazy, it shouldn’t be too hard to remind people that not too long ago homosexuals were considered crazy. I’m not sure when, but I’m pretty sure that gays were considered crazy in 1970.

Since we’re talking about Mehlman, sure, he’s as welcome to a place in the Republican leadership as much as any person with an untreated mental illness is.

And if we’re talking about gay marriage, certainly polygamy should be legal long before gay marriage. Polygamy doesn’t require changing the meaning of the word marriage. It just means that people can have more than one marriage (I think - are there group ceremonies?). Also, polygamy isn’t extinctionary behavior.

Marijuana will be 100% legal long before gay marriage.

I’d recommend the socons focus all efforts on gay marriage, transsexuals, and, as always, abortion.

Cut the laundry list of “things we don’t like” down to those, like gay marriage and abortion, which are truly repugnant.

For which paper?

Ken Mehlman is one of the good giys. He totally devoted his life to raising money and getting George W Bush elected POTUS twice.

I could not care less about his private life, especially now that he is out of public life.

The media will be talking about gay Ken Mehlman, probably when we would least like them to. We’d all like him to go away, of course.

IMHO Ted Olson is way worse. Taking the gay marriage deal to the Supreme Court, and fighting FOR the Ground Zero Mosque in the name of his previous wife, Barbara Olson, murdered on 9-11 on the plane that crashed into the Pentagon. She was a passenger.

Well, I can't imagine how one would “get rid” of them...homosexuals are free to vote Republican.

It is Melhman who decided to discuss is sex life in public, and by doing so he invites comments on his behavior.

And by doing so he has now demanded that he be seen as an oppressed minority...and self-rightously claims that anyone who does not support his agitating for the State to recognize his sex life as normal and natural...is somehow committing a hate crime.

Pure balderdash.

Yeah, there’s got to be a better way to put it than “get rid”.

We can tell them that we won’t enable their mental illness, but they might prefer less government, even if the more government party would enable their mental illness.

But we don’t want to elect or hire crazy people.

“I do.

If he is Gay, he as no scruples and he has no principles.

His life is centered around himself and what he wants, nothing else. There is not God there are no moral laws that governs his life, just his desires.

Prinicples and morality may not be important to you, but they are to me.”
