Hmmmm, research was done at University of Texas, not that it’s consistently ranked as a party school or anything. I sure hope my property or sales tax dollars didn’t pay for this.
This is something us “experienced” drinkers have known for a long, long time:)
I was thinking the same thing after reading the comments on this thread...
How old were they when they died and how did they die?
I guess this is why my sister-in-law has been told that her liver is shot.
This is a silly and irresponsible article. What does “heavy” mean? Heavy drinkers have a significantly increased risk of liver and heart disease, depression and even some cancers. Really heavy drinkers get wet brain and die truly horrible deaths—bleeding out of the eyes and mouth, turning yellow, unable to control their bowels.
Its fine—and true—to say moderate drinking is more healthy than abstinence but saying heavy drinking is better is dangerous.
The alcohol industry is trying to get in front of Obamacare by grasping for favorable press.
They see the big guns in Gov't and tort-land licking their chops for the next big gold mine after decimating the cigarette companies.
Sugar industry up next after alcohol companies are laid waste.
He died of liver disease and cancer 3 days after his 86th birthday.
I don’t always drink beer but when I do...Its DOS EQUIS STAY THIRSTY MY FRIENDS.
The absolute hard-core...1+ bottle/day don't live past 50 or 55 usually.
However, those that drink 1/2 that DO.
I like to drink too!
My brothers, one, 63, the other 60. Straight up alcoholism. They should have lived into their late 80’s or early 90’s, judging by the lifespans of our grandmothers, aunts, uncles, and our parents.
I would be dead now if I had not quit because my liver was going. It is curious how a person with serous of the liver could outlive someone with a good liver.
An obvious explanation for this might be that healthier people tend to drink more. In other words, that the causality is the other way around. I know that in my experience the sickliest people have tended to be teetotalers. They chose not to drink in part because they knew that it would give them too many other problems.
On the other hand, with only a couple of exceptions, all of the healthiest people I know have been known to go a bit overboard. In part, they feel somewhat invulnerable.
Having said that, I now have an excuse to go out tonight. I am doing it for my health.
Of course my dad hit it pretty good and died in his 80s.
And in some heavy drinkers heavy drinking can cause chemical imbalances in the brain that cause schizophrenia and bipolar conditions. Personal family experience.
But seriously there has been an organized attempt to push outright prohibition for at least 20 years led by the likes of MADD. I'm glad to see this is finally being reported
Pickling and smoking have been used to preserve things for centuries.
