The gunman was previously convicted of illegally carrying a concealed weapon - the same one he used at the school..
He was given probation and ordered to seek mental help.
Why didn’t they take his gun?
“We no longer seem to want to kill murderers, child molesters, rapists, etc.”
It’s because making ‘em dead invites so much negetivity from the cops, courts, perp’s family, lawsuits, etc.
We need more Judge Roy Bean types on the courts.
“Gentlemen, I find the law very explicit on murdering your fellow man, but there’s nothing here about killing a Chinaman. Case dismissed.”
...Hardly brilliant.Stupid more like.
I could be wrong, but I'm guessing that SJS's "brilliant tactical move" comment had sarcasm tags around the phrase "brilliant tactical move". The situation clearly called for an immediate "shoot to stop" response to prevent the deranged assailant from shooting the Principal or students and the officer instead tried to talk him down.
Suicide by cop.
“And how dark is it in there in 2nd period?”
Don’t know about theirs, but mine was dark enough to sleep the whole semester away. LOL
Because he wasn’t a member of a DOJ identified terrorist group like GOA?
I’d love to see a poll of trained LEO and civilians, detailing which portion of instruction covered bargaining and maneuvering with an armed intruder.
Insane that people don’t see how weak she was. All she did was pull her issued weapon and then not follow-through on her training and her DUTY.
It took real cops to come finish the job, properly.
Thus the dynamic of FR. Police who do the lawful job they are supposed to do get 100% of my support. Those who do otherwise are judged on their actions, not their uniform.
Oh, I don't know.....I'd like to think that I have a few moments of sanity occasionally.
But then again, maybe I'm crazy to think that.
How do you turn the compliment "Far more restraint than I would have" into a negative commentary?
The students were never in any danger, he said. And Carolyn Gudger performed her job admirably to ensure the safety of students and staff.
Statement #2: absolutely, the woman’s a hero, though I’m not sure why she didn’t just cap his ass as soon as he crossed the threshhold.
Statement #1: Bravo Sierra - what an idiotic statement!
Colonel, USAFR
“No one knows why Cowan pointed his Honda in the direction of the Blountville, Tenn., high school, where his brother is a janitor.”
Because it was a gun-free zone? Yeah! Criminals absolutely gun-free zones because law-abiding people don’t have the ability to defend themselves.
Our local high school also enforces student i.d.s If a student does not have their i.d., they get in trouble.
Things are somewhat different here.
Never at the point of a gun.
One says "drop the gun," and if they do not, one shoots them dead.
Hell, If one could have seen him coming up the walk with a gun in hand, one would have gone on the attack right away. No need to wait.

What is a “school resource officer”?
The school’s “resource officer”—whatever that is—was ARMED!!! That is GREAT. It might well have saved some lives. But frankly, she should have shot first and THEN asked her questions.
you mustve missed the challenge for all ‘cop haters’ to reply to this thread...my jab was solely directed towards the cops do no wrong mindset of the OP, and my theory on what wouldve been any ‘acceptable’ lack of restraint...
[Post Beslin/Columbine any one with a gun should live five seconds.]
Any one with a gun? How about, “anyone BRANDISHING a gun” would be a bit more appropriate.
It’s just that it is already against the Constitution that folks be disarmed on school grounds, donchathink?
