The spin factor on this story and on any follow up promises to be very high. She had a gun, and should have used it immediately.
Hardly brilliant.Stupid more like. She obviously thought Cowan would not pull the trigger. A very stupid assumption. Stand off = you're dead. She is a very lucky woman.
The left will get all woosey over this story. She should have dropped him in his tracks as soon as she saw the gun, or when Cowan lunged for hers , as reported.Did Cowan and Gudger know each other before this incident? Weird!
...Hardly brilliant.Stupid more like.
I could be wrong, but I'm guessing that SJS's "brilliant tactical move" comment had sarcasm tags around the phrase "brilliant tactical move". The situation clearly called for an immediate "shoot to stop" response to prevent the deranged assailant from shooting the Principal or students and the officer instead tried to talk him down.
I’d love to see a poll of trained LEO and civilians, detailing which portion of instruction covered bargaining and maneuvering with an armed intruder.
Insane that people don’t see how weak she was. All she did was pull her issued weapon and then not follow-through on her training and her DUTY.
It took real cops to come finish the job, properly.
You are right. The restraint was likely too much. Although, I can't say for certain without being there. Yet the cop-haters on this board claim that officers should always show such restraint, some even claim that officers should surrender to people who approach them with guns, or that officers have no right to shoot crazies who go nuts in large retail establishments while carrying.
In essence, the Cops get criticized no matter what they do.
