Giant blue whales showing in record numbers

Swells of calorie-rich planktonic krill have attracted more giant blue whales off the Palos Verdes Peninsula than local whale watchers can ever remember.

Since last week, onlookers have been treated to a virtual whale playground. As many as 25 giants at once have been spotted from shore in recent days.

This is extraordinary, considering that only 2,000 blue whales have been documented in the north Pacific Ocean.

The blue whales' massive smooth backs, geyseral blows, and spade-like flukes have rushed the heartbeats of those who have witnessed the largest mammals ever known to A blue whale surfaces and exhales. (Scott Varley / Staff Photographer) inhabit Earth.

"So little is known about whales, so when you get to see this brief glimpse of them it's really thrilling and quite a treat," said Diane Alps, program coordinator at Cabrillo Marine Aquarium. "We're seeing a whale that's relatively rare and hard to see."

Um...I believe they said 3 “Fin Whales” (2nd Largest)....

The mention of the Grey’s referred to their being common to the migration route.

The P.V. Peninsula is a great place to watch the whales.

Think I’ll go this weekend.

False alarm, it was Michelle on yet another vacation.

I'm wondering if it goes "beep...beep...beep" when she backs up.

What is bigger than a whale?

Michelle in a tent gown and Hillary in a hand-me-down Michille gown.

no problem...

Food, Sport, Oil, Products, or whatever economic usage can be made of the entire beast.

“Buggy whips, Carriage springs, Corset stays, Fishing rods, Hoops for women’s skirts, Umbrella ribs and many other applications **where nowadays plastic or steel would be used**.”

Exactly.
