The Mid-Atlantic Region of Carpenters (MARC) is notorious for hiring non-union workers to walk their union picket lines. These paid non-union picketers are usually given minimum wage and no benefits.

In an act of pure hypocrisy MARC protests are targeted at construction companies they are claim are not paying a “living wage.”

The union has over 150 pickets around DC and Baltimore. Yesterday the Competitive Enterprise Institute sent a camera to document one of these pickets.

We should hire some unemployed union people to counter protest.

If you have a scab you’re not supposed to picket.

While not a proponent of more laws, unions should be required that every union employee is a member of that union. I have a lot of other ideas, like forced suicide of union executives, but I digress...

More weakening of the unions.

A hundred years ago they were a good thing, getting safety in the workplace, etc.

But like the EPA, good efforts at the beginning turns bad after a few years.

Except for the murderous gangsters who ran them from the beginning, communists who infiltrated them all along, all the crimes they committed along the way.

The carpenter’s union have daily protests at various sites in downtown Atlanta;
they hire local homeless people to march the picket line.
Several of us have jokingly talked about forming a picketers union.

Really? I had heard that it started off OK and became corrupt.

If we passed a law saying it was illegal to pay people to protest, would it pass constitutional muster?

I think in a right to work state like GA, it could get passed.

Murder incorporated, I believe, was in the 1930’s. The unions have a rather bloody history.

In NYC they put a big RAT in front of the building they are picketing.

I once asked someone from the union if that was their mascot. Actually pretty funny.

Long story I'll try to be brief.

I played golf each Thursday with a retired union executive. (He was 80 years old and hit fairways, greens, and most often would make the putt)

One day the conversation came around San Diego. He said, "You know, we picketed a business in San Diego for 6 years"

I asked, "Did they cave?"

His response, "No they went out of business."

As a Michigan resident, I know lots of union guys.

Most are fat slobs who will back down when you get them alone in a dark parking lot with no witnesses. That includes cops.

Seems like actual members have good reason to be pissed off at the Union leaders who squander their dues money paying off temp workers to picket. I’ve never heard of this practice of paying fake members to walk in a circle.
