Romer: We had no clue … and still don’t (On Economy)
Hot Air ^ | 9/02/10 | by Ed Morrissey

Christina Romer exits the administration this month, and perhaps she felt compelled to engage in a little truth telling. If so, that may have been a little more truth than the people at the National Press Club, who had gathered to hear her valediction as chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, had prepared themselves to handle. Dana Milbank describes how depressing it was to the gathered media to have someone on the inside of the Obama administration tell them that the emperor and his staff have no clothes when it comes to the economy:

She had no idea how bad the economic collapse would be. She still doesn’t understand exactly why it was so bad. The response to the collapse was inadequate. And she doesn’t have much of an idea about how to fix things.

What she did have was a binder full of scary descriptions and warnings, offered with a perma-smile and singsong delivery: “Terrible recession. . . . Incredibly searing. . . . Dramatically below trend. . . . Suffering terribly. . . . Risk of making high unemployment permanent. . . . Economic nightmare.”

Anybody want dessert?

"Romer admitted that no one at the White House understood the fundamentals of this recession, "

Let’s see... you take a trillion dollars out of the economy for government boondoggles and you can’t understand why the economy collapese?

She should ask for a refund from her college.

More proof liberalism is a mental disorder. I know both why the economic collapse happened and how to fix things...but the solutions are nothing liberals would ever be willing to do...which is probably why they are blind to the solutions.

This is your Captain speaking.
I don't know where we’re going,
not sure where we've been.

By the way, I don't know how to fly.

Aside from marxists not understanding the fundamentals of an economy they also required public confidence in the government.

How is confidence instilled in the public sector with the redistribute, spread the wealth rhetoric? How! does that promote stability and planning?

Its easy to understand how the private sector has gone on vacation for the term!

“offered with a perma-smile and singsong delivery”

I always thought she was scary insane...

She completely exposed herself as a giant fraud

When Obama was elected, a truck driver delivering to my company said: “Well, now that we have a new president, maybe the economy will pick up.”

I responded, “That is absolutely impossible if these clowns do what they say they are going to do.”

LOL, I think anyone w/ a functioning brain figured this out long ago. Perhaps the ‘those who are way smarter than us little folks’ are just figuring it out. Horrors, the bitter clingers were right. LOL!!!!!

“and still don’t”

Reason #1 why NO president, Republican or Democrat, should be responsible for ‘managing’ the economy.

You can either have faith in the people or the government. Not both.

Here is some more bad news. She was the smartest and obviously the most honest of the bunch. Buckle your seat belts, there could be some turbulence ahead.

My belief is that Obama and his administration were not really concerned with fixing the economy. They simply thought it would cycle back into recovery. So in the meantime, they pursued their plan of “Payback” to the unions and their gov’t-handout-addicted constituents. They didn’t care what effect the stimulus would have on the economy- rather they figured they could control the news flow with rhetoric. To some extent, they’re correct. In a fair world, Obama and his administration would have been shamed out of office by now.

America should be asking for a refund from the DNC. It can start paying us back in installments of a billion per year.

I agree with the following that was attached to the article:

They didn’t know? Really? Really????

I think they did, and do. My personal belief is they want to continue on this path of destruction. It paves the way to rebuilding America in their image. More government control, and intervention. Power to the king, and slavery for the rest of us.

All part of the plan!!!

capejasmine on September 2, 2010 at 1:01 PM

The only thing I’d add to the above is that I think Romer actually thought what they’ve done would work. She was the dupe - the fall guy who, with her academic credentials, would put a credible face on a strategy that, as capejasmine says, was really intended to destroy the U.S. ecomony. Can you imagine her embarrassment if she ever realizes how she’s been used, realizes that her boss knew all along that her economic philosophy was flawed and exploited it to cover the real agenda? The ultimate useful idiot. At the end of the day, Obama will lose his attempt to create a global form of neo-Islam based on Marxist principles. I take comfort in believing that if he couldn’t pull it off, as bright and talented as he is, no one can - at least not in my live time nor the life times of my grandchildren, thank God.
