White House considering emergency economic stimuli

By: Glenn Thrush September 2, 2010 07:04 PM EDT

The Obama administration is mulling a raft of emergency fixes to stimulate the economy before the midterms, including an extension of the research and development tax credit and new infrastructure spending, according to several people familiar with the situation.

Administration officials have been huddling almost continuously during the past week, brainstorming for ideas that would boost employment without hiking the massive federal deficit – with Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner rushing to the West Wing for further consultations late Thursday.

The White House press office on Thursday refused to say how much a financial package might be, other than to say it won’t be a “second stimulus.” But the administration will have a tough time selling nearly any package to terrified, Obama-phobic Hill Democrats who increasingly blame the president – and his ambitious, expensive legislative agenda – for their dismal prospects this November.

The meetings, which had Obama huddling with his economic advisers twice in the last seven days, have yielded no specific proposals. But he’s given the team a priority: find ways to pay for as many of the ideas, mostly tax breaks, as possible without a deficit increase, an administration official told POLITICO.

The R-and-D tax cut, which Congressional Democrats have already considered would, for example, be paid for by closing overseas corporate loopholes.

Slowly, their election fate is dawning on them...they can’t run on their record of increasing taxes, regulations, and failing to properly handle the containment and cleanup of the Gulf oil spill.

0bamacare is a failure. Letting the Bush tax cuts expire is a failure. 0bama’s stimulus was a failure. 0bama’s bailouts of banks, GM, and Chrysler are failures.

Now, the Dems are desperately seeking to accomplish something that they can run on in their 2010 campaigns.

...they haven’t found it yet, either.

Don't even suggest it. What they'll do is send you a check for $5000 and tack it onto your taxes due next April then add late fees and surcharges.

Well, he's doing the first part next week, according to Shep Smith a few minutes ago. A "news conference" is scheduled for next week on the efforts (snort) the administration has been taking to aid the economy. I expect there will be some sort of announcement about the items in this article.

It reminds me of my stupid youth when I would goof off during the semester and then become studious at the eleventh hour in order to pass the class. Barry, after vacationing all summer, is going to show that he's been paying attention and learned a lot. Too late, Barry...FAIL.

Obama's turd world radical attempt to ignite class warfare has failed. These leftwing-inspired morons never get that in America, class envy translates into motivation to improve oneself, to join the next higher SES class and not to tear it down.(except for the underclass, who have abandoned hope after 70 years of betrayal by the 'rats.)

Now wait, let me get this straight. For damn near 15 months we have been told that the economy was in recovery mode, whatever that means.

But now they are saying it's not REALLY in a recovery so let's throw more money that we don't have to fix it AGAIN?

Call me confused!

The banks have disregarded the law 100%.

I had a BoA rep tell me they did not care about abiding by the requirements for my client. this was their internal policy and there were no penalties for disregarding the law.

In the early 1920’s, with the Russian economy collapsing around him, Lenin introduced his New Economic Policy...he sold it to the Politburo telling them that it was only a temporary return to the market; besides the Party would still control the economy’s ‘commanding heights’of finance and heavy industry.
