After waiting 1 1/2 years for cable executive Muzzammil "Mo" Hassan to face murder charges in the stabbing and beheading of his wife, prosecutors suffered a blow Friday when a judge ruled that the defense can introduce evidence of "battered spouse syndrome."......

The defense also said the victim verbally antagonized Hassan through their nine-year marriage and subjected him to "debilitating abuse" that caused Hassan to have low self-esteem, be medically depressed and in need of professional threatment

This is despicable. Since when is being a battered spouse reason for murder? All this does is open the door to jury collusion.

There should be no such thing as "battered spouse" defense.

Self-defense, fine, but killing someone when you can walk away and get a cop is murder.

in need of professional threatment

I could think of a few professionals that could treat him. Probably not the same ones the defense has in mind, though.

Hey...come on! Give the guy the benefit of a doubt. Maybe she looked at him wrong and deserved to have her freakin’ head cut off. Let’s be culturally sensitive now to our mooslim brothers.

this makes it open season on any “uppity woman” who causes mental distress and low self esteem in her muslim husband ....

as if a culture defined by an ideology of male domination needed any provocation or defense for disposing of inconveniently nonconforming uncooperative women

there should too be a battered spouse defense. This beast attempting to make use of it is laughable.

I think his he should be found guilty and sentenced by having his little tiny weenie cut off. Then hanged until dead.

D.a. could come out looking truely bad if this goes sour.
Course beheadings are customary in islam.

This is just pandering to Islamic Terrorism....Islam teaches and preaches that men can abuse their wives.

This guy would not be allowed to roam free in Muslim circles....”allowing his wife to abuse him”....his own Muzzies would kill him

I agree. But not for murder unless in self defense. And I don't see that in this case...

I agree with tribune7. The battered spouse defense was invented by radical feminists to absolve abused women who murdered their husbands in cold blood. These women were not acting in self-defense, which is why a new legal approach was needed to satisfy the feminists’ belief that “he deserved it.”

A murder victim's treatment of the murderer should be a factor in sentencing, but, as it stands, the battered spouse defense exonerates a certain form of vigilantism.
