Lesbian Catholic school AD forced out of job after marriage

Tuesday evening, Christine Judd was still the Athletic Director and Dean of Students at Cathedral High School in Springfield, Mass. Then suddenly, after a single meeting on Wednesday morning, she was not.

According to MassLive.com, Judd met with officials of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Springfield Wednesday after the diocese -- which runs Cathedral and other Catholic schools in the Springfield area -- learned that Judd, an open lesbian, married her longtime partner in August.

Judd isn't a newcomer to Cathedral. The Springfield resident served as AD for three years and dean of students for six years. She'd been at Cathedral 12 years in all before she "resigned," on Wednesday. And though she may have technically resigned, her decision didn't seem to be so open ended when you hear Judd describe the options that the diocese presented her with.

"I was given a choice of termination or resignation," Judd said. "I'm hurt, but I wish nothing but the best for Cathedral, its students, the parents, the athletic teams, administration and faculty. I bleed purple (the school's color)." ...

"I married my partner this summer," Judd said. "I was hoping that my loyalty, my professionalism the last 12 years would supersede the current hypocrisy that has already been shown with the Diocese of Springfield."

If she resigned then what is she complaining about? Had she been fired, then she could have some kind of legal case against her employer.

No hints of her orientation before she was promoted to Dean of Students? Doesn’t raise my opinion of the American Catholic Church.

I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop. Next she will sue stating that she was forced to resign.

“Lesbian Catholic school AD forced out of job after marriage”

But it was ok to have it in a position of power over Catholic youth?

She talks of hypocrisy, and yet she had no shame in showing hers by staying a member of a church whose teachings she was not prepared to live by. She could have either left the church and joined or started another religion more in line with her own beliefs, or she could have stayed and repented her behaviour and resolve to change. Instead, she tried to have her cake and eat it. I’m not a catholic, but I know hypocrisy when I see it...

Terribly crafted headline from yahoo. At first blush, one would think there’s a lesbian Catholic school.

Well, as far as I can tell the American Catholic Church doesn’t come into it. That’s just some Protestant group that fakes being Catholic.

As far as the Roman Catholic Church goes, I think they will survive your informed disapproval.

Let’s see, she chose resignation over termination. If she had a leg to stand on, she would have chosen termination with the intent to litigate her case.

What is not mentioned here is whether she had some sort of contract with a morals clause. If she were not to marry her partner, there was always the hope for redemption but outwardly flanting her transgression against church doctrine she rolled the dice and lost.

My only question is why was this allowed to go on so long? Her “long-time” partner? It should have been nipped in the bud from the inception.

Religious exemptions apply; she would have had no case. I can’t believe that the diocese had the cojones to fire her; there is hope.

You two obviously did not read the article...

"Technically, the Springfield diocese is within its rights. While same-sex marriage has been legal in Massachusetts since 2004, it's strictly against diocese policy. That means that Judd breached her contract when she was married this summer.

Or you did, and are just gay trolls.

I am pleased that anyone in a position of influence over our youth should be called out for sinful behavior and asked to resign.

Thank heavens some people in authority can still be trusted to do the right thing, as opposed to schools like Notre Dame!
