Analysts: White House Panicking Over Elections Say Dems Are Distancing Themselves From Obama, Angry Over Economy, Health Care Fallout
By Jimmy So
(CBS) With many polls indicating the Republicans may win back control of the House of Representatives (and possibly the Senate as well) in the upcoming mid-term elections, Jim VandeHei, the executive editor of Politico, told CBS' "Face the Nation" that the Obama administration is in a horrible position.
"Does the White House understand this?" asked guest host Harry Smith. "Do you feel any sense of panic or concern" on the part of the administration?
"They get it. There's panic. There's concern," VandeHei said. "The reality for this administration stinks, politically and practically, when it comes to the economy. You're not going to be able to change that 9.6-percent unemployment figure. You can't get anything from Congress in the next couple of months."
CBS Congressional correspondent Nancy Cordes said the Democrats are distancing themselves from President Obama.
"Not only are they running away from President Obama, they're running away from being Democrats in some cases. In some races you actually see the Democratic candidates not really mentioning that they're a Democrat in their campaign ads," Cordes said.

It’s more than apparent to me (by his actions) that he has no intention of running; being a one-termer will satisfy that part of his ego and he can move on to the “statesman” BS.
Rats are in trouble partly due to the decentralized nature of the Tea Party and its lack of national leadership. It’s difficult to isolate 10 million individuals and target them.
JB: Well, I think thats still a big question. If, in fact, we gain the majority, that means were going to have at least sixty new members of Congress. And when we begin to look at changes to the committee process, its going to take time to implement that as well. But I can tell you that a Republican-led Congress will be serious about reducing spending in Washington, D.C., getting our economy back on track, and getting the American people back to work.
He also said this:
HH: Now Speaker, I said Speaker, Speaker-possible Boehner, Leader Boehner, if you get the majority back, and you are the next Speaker, how quickly will you move to engage the Democrats? How quickly will you pass appropriations bills, a budget with the tax extension, and at least some nibbling away at Obamacare to start the year?
JB: Well, were going to outline our governing agenda later on in September. And its going to be about jobs, its going to be about spending, and its going to be about health care, national security, and reforming the way our government works. And were not going to waste a whole lot of time thinking about it. The American people want us to get serious about the problems that confront our country, and I think that under a Republican majority in Congress, youre going to see us take that responsibility seriously.
I don't see the problem.
This is just one example of where he hems and haws. The fact is he has no clear plan that should have already been on the table now. Its not like it is a big surprise they stand a very real chance to take over.
HH: Okay, Im assuming they dont. I hope you push for it. I hope you go for it. But I doubt they will. If they dont, can you commit that by the end of February, there will be a budget resolution that at least out of the House, that embodies extending the Bush tax cuts?
JB: Well, Hugh, listen, Im not Barack Obama, Im not Nancy Pelosi. I say what I mean, and I mean what I say, and I dont make commitments that I cant keep. Now its hard for me in August to say when the budget resolution is going to move. But I am going to tell you that were going to take our job seriously and responsibly. And were going to have a responsible budget resolution. Were going to move our appropriation bills in a timely fashion. And there are a lot of, a whole host of other things that were going to do, and youll see that governing agenda, again, later on in September.
Later on in September? Have you guys been vacationing with Obama all this time?
The whole thing is largely filled with platitudes with no clear agenda beyond bumper stickers. Labor day weekend is where the rubber meets the road and if these guys are giving the Dems a half track lead on message, they never catch up before the timing traps. (Drag racing analogy)
with that, Boehner and McConnel will capitulate. Ruling Class spineless twerps!

Just let ‘em fu**ing try!
This is the last time these A$$Holes on are side reach across the aisle...for anything! Nancy, Harry and Obama can go fu** themselves!
If I hear Mitch McConnel giving us one of his famous: “The American people are looking for true bipartisanship” or “We must reach across the aisle so we can project a consiliatory tone” so help me, they should be tried for treason and locked up!
I still believe Mitch McConnel gets more excited during a bowel movement than he does standing up for the principles of this country!
Mitch, you’ve seen what’s been happening around the country in some of the Primaries...you’re on notice!
We had better not get over-confident. Did anyone see the LSU-North Carolina football game yesterday? That could happen to us.
Speaking of "Dems Are Distancing Themselves From Obama" - how's this?
If he was indeed dragging his feet we need to begin the process now of mobilizing a campaign to put someone else in as Speaker or some way to clear his sinuses. The stakes are too high. We cannot afford to have a shrinker instead of a bold leader.
That's the problem: voters have seen the dems act with uncontrolled hubris in enacting their liberal wet dreams, and hate everything they've done.
Well he sure sounds tough when you say “at least some nibbling at Obamacare”
Well stated.
We NEED Leadership!
That was Hewitt who said that.
I fear the dems will act like they are conceding to supress republican voter turnout. Turnout will be key.
Yes.
And that’s when Boehner started sounding decisive.
I guess you had to “hear it”
For speaker, someone with the nads to tell it like it is. The one man that immediately comes to mind is LTC Allen West but he is not there yet and needs some “seasoning” but you get my point of the attitude needed.
Maybe Michelle Bachmann? Wouldn’t that just toast the cookies of Nanzi?
Some of the others who have been there a while like Pence and Ryan concern me only because of the establishment loylaty possibilities but I could be swayed provided they put forth a plan. If they are waiting for Boehner, well . . .
