What would seemingly be an issue of capitalism and supply and demand in any other city, or any other neighborhood in San Francisco, has instead morphed into another battle between merchants and the homeless in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood:
The McDonald's at the corner of Haight and Stanyan streets eliminated its Dollar Menu about a month ago, making the items on it too expensive for the people who spend the better part of their day on the sidewalk in front.
Street people who for years have depended on the McDonald's to eat say it's become a de facto sit/lie ordinance.

"Yeah man, it ... sucks," he said Thursday while sitting foodless on the McDonald's patio with a half dozen hungry friends. "I eat less. I have to get more money. If I don't have a dollar and I want food, I just end up going to a trash can."There are other alternatives, like maybe getting a job, but in some cases, the trash can does seem appropriate.
Sausage McMuffin...minus the muff. ;-)
I think I've figured it out...
What about all the environmentally conscious restaurants offering wonderful locally grown sustainable organic vegan delicacies? Surely those restaurants must have a dollar menu which they allow bums to paw over all day long.
How heartless of McDonalds. They should have a “street people” value menu where all items are just a penny. They can pay for it by raising the dollar value menu items for eveyone else to $3.00. Kinda like the Democrats.
Somehow, I’ve come to the realization, that if one can form a complete sentence and one is homeless, one chooses to be homeless.
Yep.
LOL! I love it!!! ;)
I thought bums already ate at those places?
Oh wait, you are talking about homeless bums! lol
Stop the tape! Do you mean to tell me that there are homeless people in the socialist paradise of San Francisco?
In San Francisco, it’s probably just the lack of jobs but even more importantly the lack of housing, thanks to the local liberal Democrat politicians who ban housing construction without enormously expensive government kickbacks. Even the working probably can’t afford adequate sustenance after paying all their taxes even though they adopted the homeless lifestyle to save money to afford food.
My son went through the ‘drive through’ at another popular fast food place, and said that everyone seemed to be ordering off the DOLLAR MENU, almost exclusively.
LOL WUT?
I only order off the dollar menu. Not because of cost but for portion control. I know if I order a regular combo meal I’ll eat all 1000 to 1300 calories of it instead of the 500 to 600 off three dollar menu items.
The bums are just one of the many reasons, I don’t go to San Francisco! If you’re not a tourist, what’s the attraction? Some of those bums are very aggressive. While at that same McDonald’s a guy tried to hustle me for some money. He said he was a Viet-Nam Vet. When I told him I didn’t have any change, he became a smart-aleck. I resisted the impulse to kick-him-in-the-teeth! His daddy might have been a Vet but not this clown.
Why don’t they head to that restaurant where people pay what they want?
