London, England (CNN) -- Metropolitan police in London, England, appealed Monday for further information about last month's death of a man who worked for a British intelligence agency and whose naked body was found in a padlocked duffel bag in his bathroom.

Gay death gone bad.
..killed because of haircut.
That’s the guy from The Office. A different Gareth.
This is from the article - not funny to his family and colleagues:
Police also released surveillance camera images of Gareth Williams taken August 15, about a week before officials discovered his body on August 23.
A brilliant mathematical boffin, he was helping to oversee a network which links satellites and super-computers in Britain and the U.S. with those of other key allies.
He had also worked on breaking coded Taliban messages, helping to save the lives of countless British and other Nato soldiers under attack in Afghanistan.
Hdeath would seem to have serious security implications of one kind or another - including the possibility that he was murdered by enemies of this country. Yet shadowy unnamed sources started putting it about that 'bondage equipment and gay paraphernalia' were found in his flat.
The implication was that his death was caused by some seedy sadomasochistic practice that went wrong. this planted suggestion greatly upset his grieving family, who protested at the 'horrible and completely fictitious accounts of his private life'...it was refuted in the strongest possible terms by the police who said no such paraphernalia had been found in Mr Williams's flat
In another case, a turf-war was said to have broken out between the police and the intelligence world, with the police complaining that the spooks hindered their investigation.
....returned August 11 from a trip to the United States it was released Monday.

This is a serious matter to some...call me your wet blanket.
All that intel in the USA is now being filter by the islamics/muslim brotherhood moles in the Pentagon, CIA, NSA, Hussein Admin to the Taliban and Al Qeada.
Our troops over there cannot trust anyone now. The BRits seems to be doing better now that the Labour-Islamic Party is out. The Torys are a little better & Lib Dems not so much. I think MI6 is back with the right team post islamo POS Blair/Browne.
If this is is true about this young man breaking codes then he was a real hero.
Thank goodness the UK has two good newspapers in the Daily Mail and the Telegraph. The only thing we have is Wash Times and Investors Business Daily. The rest in the US are total shite including Murdoch/Saudi WSJ.
Remember the assassination that took place in Dubai for that arms dealer as there was no forced entry then..there are ways...
Report read: "the assassins tried to reprogram the electronic lock on al-Mabhouhs door to gain entry. Some news reports say the assassins entered the room while the victim was out and waited for him to return, while others say they were thwarted from entering the room when a hotel guest stepped off the elevator on al-Mabhouhs floor. They then had to resort to tricking al-Mabhouh into opening his door to them after he returned."
Also another Scotland yard case:
Scotland Yard has defended its initial investigation of phone-hacking by News of the World journalists, claiming that new evidence from a former reporter has come from nowhere 06 Sep 2010, Scotland Yard defends investigation into News of the World phone-hacking claims. Detectives have asked the New York Times to hand over the transcript .
Thank God for Melanie Phillips. She is a British treasure.
Yes, I rely on UK papers you name. London Telegraph first read.
Holland Park station Aug 14
They also issued closed circuit television footage of Williams, who returned to Britain from a holiday in the United States on August 11, on shopping trips in the West End and Knightsbridge areas of London a week before his body was found.
The mysterious circumstances surrounding Williams' death has prompted some experts to question whether he was targetted because of the nature of his work.
"In my own opinion, a murder of this kind bears all the hallmarks of a professional killing and not a rage attack," said Professor Anthony Glees, Director of the Centre for Security and Intelligence Studies at the University of Buckingham.
"It looks increasingly to me that a hostile intelligence service was responsible. To me this looks like a Russian job -- they have killed in London before -- but it could also be an Iranian one."
Funny how Pearl Harbor, North Korean invsion and the later Chinese participation, the developemnt of Soviet, Indian, Pakistanini nuclear weapons, the non devolpment of Saddam, Saddams invasion of Kuwait, the fall of the Soviet Union, 9/11 always comes as a surprise to our “inteligenc agencies’.
General Schwarzkopf when asked about the CIA and other agency support. ‘Their reports were so late, so qualified, so vague as to be useless’.
The guy looks like a gay dork.
And a Russian spy was found dead on the beach in , I think. Turkey< a few days ago. Gang war among the Agencies?
And Mr Williams, 31 - found murdered at his central London home - was known to meet men in the capital's gay mecca of Vauxhall Cross and Soho in the West End.
Officers broke into his £400,000 top-floor flat in Pimlico when he failed to contact colleagues. Investigators suspect Mr Williams might have known his killer as there was no sign of forced entry.
So, not married, no girl, lives in $800,000 posh apartment in a gay section, owned by a Russian named company and has just traveled to the US and is so...so...so...frekin'n important, that he goes missing for two or more weeks before his bosses get off their arses and go looking for him. Top flyte!
i must say, it is virtually impossible right now to know what
the truth is. i do hope it is unravelled as i would love
to know the answer.
“All that intel in the USA is now being filter by the islamics/muslim brotherhood moles in the Pentagon, CIA, NSA, Hussein Admin to the Taliban and Al Qeada.”
I’m concerned about that as well. In the case of this guy, I am very concerned that our backdoor intelligence people are being specifically targeted. This truly is a war with no boundaries.
Thanks for the above link in your #1249 Terrorism and Counterterrorism thread, granny.
I'm wondering if any of this has anything to do with the information released by Wikileaks lately...? Am I barking up the wrong tree?
These 3 films playing in most Independent film houses are worth the see even though in subtitles (English), your mind somehow blends it together and you forget you are reading. the films are so well done that they are worth the tickets. I am waiting for the last of the trilogy (Swedish film makers Yellow Bird).
Hollywood is attempting to copy the success of these films, but has cast an actress now that is not fit for the role, not built like Lisbeth Salander and the American versions will be surely be dumbed down to a freak mutation of the artistic originals.
Swedish author and journalist Stieg Larsson passed in the Millennium Trilogy just before he died in 2004. Larsson died in Stockholm at the age of 50 of a heart attack. Rumors that his death was in some way induced, because of death threats received as editor of Expo, have been denied
These remain posthumous bestsellers (now) in several European countries as well as here. Larsson was initially a political activist for the Kommunistiska Arbetareförbundet (Communist Workers League), a photographer, and one of Sweden's leading science fiction fans.In politics he was the editor of the Swedish Trotskyist journal Fjärde internationalen. He also wrote regularly for the weekly Internationalen.
The Internet is the new Private Eye.
..death by drowning--happens a lot with missing scientists and spies. In this case the deceased guy usually had body guards.
"The general was last seen visiting the building site for a new Russian military base in the Syrian coastal city of Tartus, which is being expanded as a base for Russia's Black Sea fleet....After his visit, he left for a meeting with Syrian intelligence agents
The UK guy will "be the highest-profile killing in the UK of someone linked to the secret services since that of Alexander Litvinenko - KGB agent who died in hospital after being poisoned by radioactive polonium-210 in 2006.
We now have a mysterious liquid.
I would say the death of the career international criminal in Dubai by a group of international secret agents is pretty high up there in importance blamed on the Mossad..not UK per se, but connections
KABUL - Police are investigating the murder of a well known Afghan journalist who was found outside his Kabul home this weekend covered in stab wounds.... Afghan President Hamid Karzai issued a statement ordering authorities to spare no effort in bringing Sayed Hamid Noori's killers to justice. Noori had once been an anchor for state television and a newspaper editor. More recently, he held a leadership position in Afghanistan's Association of Independent Journalists and teacher of young journalists.09/06/2010
Safety in the US for "news readers" who remain behind the cameras. Overseas assignments of some ongoing could be a different story, but I think they are pretty much on a leash. Current contributors (not everyone's favorite) can be a different story with thrill seeking journalists with no borders.
no problem with subtitles. big on foreign films, primarily
Many thanks for that informative update. I must admit that I had bought in to the “gay/porn/escort user” story, I thought he was another one of those decadent Brits (you must admit, they do exist). But it is easy to blacken a person’s name when they are dead - he can’t give us his version of events.
I shall say a prayer for his bevreaved family.
This crime was too well prepared with materials uses. The police even ruled out the gay murder side of it.
In the Millinneum Trilogy above, I mentioned, the girl with the dragon tattoo (researcher, hacker, investigator & victim) was called a "satanic lesbian" to discredit by the normal unidentified sources of govt authority. It gave credibility to her being a suspected murderer. Her image gave her the appearance of "punk". The media sensationalized. This triology had a real good history on the intelligence in the Swedish government after the fall of the Soviet union.
MI6 Agents in the UK aren’t paid enough to make the mortgage payment on a $750,000 condo.
He’s dead. The money’s gone. Who gave it to him?
.."the Mail has learned of intriguing riddles about his death. The spys brain showed no signs of bruising, indicating he was not knocked unconscious before he died. This has led to speculation that he may have been killed with a tiny injection of poison, possibly through his inner ear. If so, the needle mark would be almost invisible to the naked eye." ..." Another riddle is that Mr Williamss personal computer is thought to be missing. He had designed the small machine to his own specifications and it cannot be found, the Mail has been told."
Jonathan Moyle, another British intelligence agent, was found hanging inside a hotel wardrobe in the Chilean capital Santiago in 1990 with a padded noose around his neck. Moyles former fiancée Annette Kissenbeck to her home in Germany, where she said the latest death of a British spy in a bag brings back painful memories.
The British intelligence services tried to smear Jonathan by suggesting he was sexually deviant, she said. I felt so helpless and alone trying to stand up to what was untrue against such powerful and shadowy forces."..a Chilean judicial investigation concluded that Moyle had been murdered....two years later, in 1993, the murder investigation was wrapped up without a single suspect being arrested."
Reports that Mr Williams was a high-flyer who secretly oversaw top secret Transatlantic projects have been played down and his role at GCHQ was that of a "middleranking civil servant".
Williams was a Cambridge-educated mathematician
It is believed he was due to return Cheltenham to join a unit fighting cyber-crime, especially hackers targeting banks. Police are reluctant even to describe the cipher expert as a spy, or even to confirm he died as a result of a murder, and still consider it an unexplained death.
Det Chf Insp Jacqueline Sebire, who is leading the investigation, said: "I would appeal to anyone who may have seen, or had contact with Gareth in the period between 11th and 23rd August to come forward and speak with us at the Incident Room on 0208 358 0200, or to remain anonymous Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
The property was purchased for £675,250 in 2000 with a mortgage from the Royal Bank of Scotland which in 2000 when it was bought was the biggest money laundering bank in the world run by a former Tory Minister with MI6 connections. The Bank of Scotland suffered looses through covert arms deals that went wrong following the 'arms to Iraq scandal' Documents show the owner of New Rodina operated using a law firm called Park Nelson which occupied a rented office in Bell Yard, off Fleet Street, but no longer appears to exist. This is a standard proceedure and no doubt the cleaners will be working overtime. Michael Howard, the former Conservative Party leader, and Leon Britten are among a host of politicians and bankers who also live on the street.
A few weeks ago two letter bombs were sent from Caearnafon North Wales (a few miles from where Gareth grew up) one to MI6 headquaters and one to 10 Downing Street as a protest by intelligence agents in North Wales. AllVoices
Gareth was caught up in a secret intelligence war which this january led to thousands of documents on 'arms to Iraq' being siezed by the Derby Police from an address in North Wales situated between Cearnarfon and Valley in Angelsey where Gareth grew up....Some of these documents have been requested by the Iraq Inquriy but the Derby Police who walked into North Wales and escalated an itelligence war refuse to return them.
"London: Gareth Williams played a key role in the world's most sensitive and secretive electronic intelligence gathering system leading to new fears about the serious national security implications of his death. Williams was a top-level cryptologist helping to oversee a network called Echelon, which links satellites and super-computers in Britain and the United States with those of other key allies. Set up to monitor the military and diplomatic communications of the Soviet Union during the Cold War, Echelon now eavesdrops on terror suspects and drug dealers, and searches for other political and diplomatic intelligence."
Spain: Known as the Costa del Crime in the tabloid press Marbella has been the scene of an on-going violent turf war between Spanish, Irish, British and Russian drug gangs because of its location near the coast of Morocco, only 40 miles away....It has also been an open secret that in the regional capital of Marbella much of that money comes from the seedy-side of life, linked to speculating in real estate, or dirtier crimes, such as extortion, contract murders, car-thefts, arms and drugs trafficking and prostitution. It is suspected that much of those ill-gotten gains were sent to offshore accounts.

Interesting thread, thanks for the alert and the bump for Vel’s thread.
