Most people have heard the old saying, "If at first you don't succeed then try, try again." The democrats in Washington and elsewhere seem to have adopted that saying when it comes to talking about the failed stimulus program and the job creation situation, only their new motto seems to be, "If at first we don't succeed, then lie, lie again."
On job creation, an oft-cited statistic by democrats is to remind everyone that during the Clinton administration there were 23 million jobs created. That is jobs created, not the bogus 'created or saved' statistic being used by the current administration. That 23-million jobs created figure is actually an accurate one as it is derived from the figures produced by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), which shows that indeed from February 1993 thru January 2001 there were 22.7 new jobs created.
Now one could argue, as this writer has, that Bill Gates had more to do with the jobs created during the tech boom of the 90s than Bill Clinton ever did. Or even that the Republicans welfare reform program, which Clinton reluctantly signed onto, moved millions people off the welfare rolls and into work roles. However, Clinton was the president during that time period, so he gets the credit for the explosive job growth.
In that situation, the democrats accurately describe the jobs picture using valid statistics. But in other situations they do not at all. Recently, for example, Representative Marcy Kaptur, a democrat from Ohio, made the unbelievably false statement on a Fox Business Channel show that more jobs had been created in the first 18 months under the Obama administration than there had been in 8 years under the Bush administration.

Son of Porkulus.
So Obama’s idea of stimulus is the same as porkulus - Have union road workers put up more orange barrels. He’s had 2 years to do something right, and this is the best he can come up with? I’m getting damn tired of ARRA propaganda signs. I wonder how many private sector jobs he’s going to kill off this time.
er... "lives touched". My life is touched everytime I see an orange barrel next to a "Putting America to Work" propaganda sign, or hear that more IRS agents have been hired.
