Our military patriotic hero Gen. Petraeus and boots on ground in Afghanistan denounces the move as risking American lives in America and unpatriotic, and our guidance of faith, the Vatican denounces the move as outrageous, grave move, or apostate worth excommunication in more straight words, which the Vatican may say the move is against Christian faith and its purity. I am interested what is the position of Free Republic moderators, and the guidelines on posts and replies which may violate rules depending on how the moderators view the issue. I am also interets in voice of Catholic and Protestant fathers and priests about the denouncing of the move from Vatican on this issue, which support of the Dove World Outreach Center may be denounced as apostate from the Vatican, and also interested in voices from our troops about Gen. Petraeus that denounced as risking American lives in Afghan, which might also be sought as traitors and unpatriotic from our brave patriots fighting in Afghan.

Seems like book burning is a lib thing to me, why risk inflaming the nutjobs, who already dont need an excuse. Burning books, banning books, thats what the Marxist does... We dont need to ban the Coran or burn it to protest it... it does that all on its own.

I'll take the Pope seriously on this when he stands up to the Saudis and demans that they allow the building of a Catholic Church and a Synagogue in downtown Riyadh.

By the way I may have missed it but can you share the Vaticans position on the Ground Zero Mosque?

There are several narrow sectarian viewpoints out there advising folks to not burn Korans.

Is that new?P>Now if they were going to be burning Koreans I'd be much more concerned!

It seems rules on the length allowed for posting article for excerpt from AP changed while I was gone. I hope I remember when I have anything to post from AP next time.

“every religion has the right to expect that its sacred books, places of worship and symbols will be respected and protected.”

Wake me up when the followers of the pig molesting, pedophile prophet, Moe-ham-head, follow this.

Is burning Korans as offensive as sawing a head off on TV? I think not.

The Vatican office responsible for relations with Islam issued a stern statement saying every religion has the right to expect that its sacred books, places of worship and symbols will be respected and protected.

Does anyone expect muslims to respect and protect places of worship, sacred books, and symbols of other religions? If not, I don’t care what happens to their cult book.

I’m not too wild about the kook who spawned all this; but as far as I am concerned, when the assholes the globe over stop burning/trampling bibles, stop burning the United States Flag and quit calling for America’s death; I’ll re-consider the burning koran thing. Until then, F.U.

If Petraeus stresses over a pastor in Florida burning a few books in a ceremony, and the reaction it might evoke, then perhaps he should return home, as this indicates that he does not understand why we are on the ground in Muslim nations in the first place.

The proper response by Petraeus, if he anticipates violent outburst over Quran burning in Florida, is to PREEMPTIVELY strike at the Muslims who are so inflamed.

The Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue has no special authority to speak for “the Vatican.”

If Benedict came out on this issue, or even the local bishop in Florida, then one could say it was the official voice of legitimate Catholic authority.

The PCID is just another goofy initiative created out of V2 that issues all kinds of ridiculous opinions. This kind of muddled thinking results in, for example, the infamous Koran Kiss of JPII.

Having said all of that, Terry Jones (the pastor) strikes me as a publicity-seeking con man who apparently supports the nutjobs of Westboro baptist church.

We could use a better frontman in defending the West against Islam, a role the Catholic Church had historically done but, due to internal weaknesses and muddled post-V2 thinking, has abdicated that role.
