Any issue that takes peoples eye off of unemployment, job creation, economic growth, taxes, spending, deficits, debts is taking your eye off the ball. He's right. If this nation doesn't immediately do something about the economy, right to life concerns will be irrelevant as people struggle just to survive.
But if somebody goes to campaign for governor candidate x, I would hope that somebody would stay focused on the issues that matter to the campaign: jobs, the economy, taxes, spending, debt, deficits.
You run down rabbit trails, you're wasting you're using up valuable resources that could be used to talk to people about what they care about.
Several things. How funny you mention "right to life" and "survive" in the same breath. (Right to live for me & thine is fine; but right to live for thou womb one, who cares?)
It used to me that you had to kiss babies to campaign. Now, the supposed "pro-life party" just throws 'em under the bus *re your quote of H.B. labeling all social issues as "a rabbit trail."
How many pro-lifers think actually having a generation to hand off this nation to as a "rabbit trail?"
What's also "funny" is that we never seem to see the "fiscal types" suggest the reverse "tactic."
The U.S. has been the wealthiest culture ever in the history of the world. And when this nation was at the height of its wealthiest production -- coupled at a time where voters were talking "values" and also where we were in the thick of a major, major moral freefall -- we didn't see the "fiscal conservatives" say, "Any issue that takes peoples eye off of values, social issues, abortion, protecting marriage, etc. is taking your eye off the ball...You run down rabbit trails, you're wasting you're using up valuable resources that could be used to talk to people about what they care about.
So guess what? It's NEVER the "right time" to discuss the mass dismemberment of the youngest members of our human family. It's seemingly always "wise" to postpone "polite discussion" about this.
So, don't be deceived by the people who can't multi-task. Believe me, if we ever get in another WW with multiple fronts -- like WWII -- you won't want them in a leadership position, anyway...they'll not be able to juggle it all.
And one more thing, Sudetenland, mYou have the whole thing reversed. It's the nations that kill off the vulnerable en masse that don't survive, anyway. 'Tis a little thing known as God's judgment -- or just plain consequences from immoral lifestyles of "me first"...like where we see in European and even some Asian countries where they're not even replacing themselves population-wise...These immoral realities become so multiplied within the culture that it becomes too far gone to salvage.
The issue is that, unfortunately, there are a lot of Mike Huckabee types that are conservative on social issues but could care less about limited government. As long as abortion is banned and gay marriage is turned back, the government can spend like there’s no tomorrow. That is what we had under George Bush and it was a disaster.
Those who scream every time someone suggests that we make fiscal restraint a priority are simply saying that the ONLY priority of the GOP should be abortion, gays and other social issues.
The sad part is that many fiscal conservatives are anti-abortion, anti-gay marriage, etc. but realize that this country is going to collapse if we don’t make fighting Socialism the priority. Limited government is what protects us. A small federal government will not get involved in abortion and gay issues. It will stick to defense and other limited issues.
