Obama seeks to mend frayed bond with voters

CLEVELAND, Ohio (AFP) – US President Barack Obama Wednesday admitted some of his policies were unpopular and had not revived the economy quickly enough, but sought to rekindle his frayed bond with American voters.

"It's still fear versus hope, the past versus the future," Obama said in economically bereft Ohio, pleading with voters to chose "moving forward" with him, rather than "sliding backward" with Republicans.

Obama, seeking to reframe the political debate ahead of November elections in which Democrats fear thumping losses, slammed his foes for pitching the economy into a historic crisis, and "moralizing" about the ballooning deficit.

But he also sought to portray humility, steadfastness, and renewed inspiration, apparently reaching out to independent voters who have deserted him, even offering praise for conservative hero, ex-president Ronald Reagan.

"Making up for eight million lost jobs caused by this recession won't happen overnight," Obama said, bemoaning the "painfully slow" recovery and acknowledging people are "angry and anxious about the future."

"Not everything we've done over the last two years has worked as quickly as we had hoped, and I am keenly aware that not all our policies have been popular," Obama said.

But he added: "you did not elect me to avoid big problems. You elected me to do what's right."

Obama detailed a series of tax breaks and new government spending programs some of which Republicans have supported in the past, to tackle the jobs crisis, daring his foes to oppose them, and risk being accused of hypocrisy.

Only one thing, and I mean ONLY one thing could raise this guy’s popularity above 50%....

And it is the ONE THING I PRAY DOES NOT HAPPEN!!

It is the one thing which would hurt the right the MOST.

Nothing else is able to do it.

That one thing, is if he became a martyr.

Anything less than a “JFK” or “LINCOLN”, and he stays in the low 40s to 30s and makes Jimmy Carter look sane and moderate.

Considering the situation 3 years ago, and now, I’ll gladly go “backwards”, schmuck.

Is this anything like a one-eyed jack? Obama, we’ve seen the other side of your face. Once elected, you couldn’t care less what people think.

"It's still fear versus hope, the past versus the future,"

Yes, I agree. I am afraid of you and I hope you go away soon. I want you to be part of the past and I look forward to a future without you.

“detailed a series of tax breaks and new government spending programs”

I thought Obama just said tonight that he favors leaner government. Could some reporter actually question him on the complete inconsistenciess he spews even on the same day?

“that all of our policies haven’t been popular”

THAT HAS TO BE THE BIGGEST UNDERSTATEMENT I HAVE EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE!

What is wrong with him? He is not only the worst president we have ever had, he is also the worst person. He knows what he is doing to our country and economy. He knows what will make things better and also what will make things worse. He is deliberately destroying wealth. This wealth was earned by good men and women. He doesn’t like certain groups, so he and his cohorts are paying back “whitey”. He is the words of Jerry Wright in action. ....damning America the best he can. November is going to be delicious.
Our votes will be saying “Oh no you can’t”!
