Clash with clunkers = all cashed out. What OblahMao touches turns to rust. One dolt = massive unsold Volts. If the sticker don’t shock ya the unsold inventory will.

There was a time when I was determined to Buy American. Alas, the time has passed. I feel I have let my father and uncle who fought in WWII down, but I know they would fight this creeping communism that has taken over the US too.

Six months ago I spent 10K on a 2006 Nissan Sentra. Fine car so far.

Had less than 40K miles on it.

Rest easy, you have NOT let down your menfolk.

Like her husband is always a Marine, a Marine wife is always a Marine wife.

There are a number of quality auto makes with foreign names, but the cars are actually assembled in the US with (more reasonable) US union skilled labor.

Everybody, including US brand companies use many parts made overseas, but you still can support US workers in the US without buying Government Motors products.

Ask the dealer, and they can tell you where each car they have in stock was made.

Well darn. I won’t drive a Ford because I don’t want to be thought of as a fag, now the Cooper is out because I wouldn’t want to be known as a douchebag.

Heck, if I just bought a horse I would risk being called a “broke back” cowboy.

Life is so complicated. ;>)

Right on! I would not drive a government moters company car if it were given to me. And that’s the truth! I hope that forever more, they are known as government motors!

Now, is there anyone out there that can tell me about the Mini Cooper?

Yep, you have to pedal like the dickens to get up to highway speed. ;)

The dirty little secret of the car sales numbers for last quarter were that a large percentage of the sales were not retail, but to daily rental fleets!

IOW, GM sold cars to Avis, etc., but relatively few to actual consumers coming in off the street.

Finally, yes, since cars will become more and more an occasional purchase, the automakers will adjust and gradually raise the prices to untold heights. This will be okay because it will end up that “amortized” over the lifetime of the car — people will be keeping vehicles much, much longer in the future — the price will still be acceptable.

If you only buy a vehicle once every 10-15 years, for example, which is not a joke going forward, paying $50K instead of $35K for a car you used to keep 4-5 years will be okay. At least that’s what automakers are banking on.

I bought last year because I had a vehicle at 200K and a rebuilt transmission. The replacement vehicle will be kept also until it stops running or becomes too unreliable.
