South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint is on former House majority leader Dick Armey’s list of Republicans he could support for president in 2012.

Asked during a panel discussion Friday night on the Tea Party movement to name several leaders he would like to see challenge President Obama, he also listed Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty.

“There’s no shortage of good people,” said Armey, the chairman of FreedomWorks, a free-market group helping to organize this weekend’s Tea Party 9/12 Taxpayer March on Washington.

Armey also suggested that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is not his ideal candidate in 2012. “There’s nobody from Alaska on my list,” he said.

I have met Jim in SC. He is awesome. I would be overjoyed to see that he was considering this for real.

I may need to make some calls tomorrow and see what’s going on down there.

He’s certainly contemplating it.

He did, however, go on to say that he’d prefer Palin as president to the White House’s current occupant.

Excellent 'suggestion' by Armey... he "could" support DeMint, right along with HIS OTHER LAUGHERS.

I am glad YOU said that. I missed it in my post. The other three would be milquetoast.

IF Palin were a pole dancer it would be Pole Dancers or Flag officers, I reckon.

Alas, Hunter has more foreign policy & military expertise than 10 Demints. But DeMint will have much more name ID.

The good news is, he is a better Speaker and can easily avoid the “he can’t win” syndrome which stalled Hunter. I met Duncan at the Ames straw poll in 2007. He’s a very nice guy, but totally was not Presidential. DeMint has a way to go... He’s not as smooth as Romney and not as charismatic as Sarah. But he is a gentleman and intelligent. And he works harder than anyone.

Hunter is a far superior speaker, actually.

Armey is sooooo jealous of Sarah’s powerful role and involvement in Tea Party Express that he resorted to this petty statement. Mitch Daniels, Tim Pawlenty, and even Chris Christie who just endorsed Mike Castle with lavish praise? Good grief. Armey is “out to lunch.”

But I agree, it won’t be the ‘Jim who?’ BS.

Fortunately, with Demint and Bolton and Arpaio likely to run, Sarah can stick to making reality shows and tweets.

I don’t think DeMint is going to run. I think he’ll endorse Romney, (again). I also think he probably wants and I think (needs) to be Senate majority leader or minority leader if November falls short. We really have to keep the strong senators in the senate, otherwise the senate will remain in the hands of a weak leader with the squishes voting with democrats on important issues.

Furthermore, should the GOP regain the majority for 2011, DeMint should be the one setting the GOP agenda.
