Nine years ago, I began a series of discussions about terrorism with Jack Kemp, Jeane Kirkpatrick and a small group of concerned philanthropists. Since today is the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 atrocities, that won’t surprise you. What might: Our first conversation took place before, not after, terrorists hijacked planes and flew them into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
Those with whom I met grasped this: While America was cashing in the post-Cold War “peace dividend,” terrorists were bombing the World Trade Center (for what turned out to be the first time), slaughtering American troops at Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia, attacking American embassies in Africa and driving an explosive-laden boat into the USS Cole. Most political leaders, intelligence analysts, academics and journalists did not see much significance in this pattern.
In the weeks that followed, we organized the Foundation for Defense of Democracies to undertake research to better understand terrorism and the forces driving it; develop useful policy options and help educate the public.
Among the most significant lesson I’ve learned since then: Terrorism is not the core problem. It is merely the weapon of choice for some of the regimes, movements and ideologies that are waging a war against democratic societies.
The terrorists regard themselves as “jihadis” - heroic Islamic warriors and conquerors. They see their enemies as “infidels” - enemies of Allah. Yes, the jihadis and those who support them have grievances against America, Europe and Israel. But resolving policy differences is not their goal. Their goal is to defeat the West, and to restore to Muslims the power and glory they enjoyed in the past and which they are confident they are destined to enjoy again.

It’s only a “Clash of Civilizations” if two civilizations show up to compete, and both are civilizations.
At this point, one side hasn’t shown up to fight, and the other side is perhaps a “culture” or “way of life”, but certainly not a “civilization”.
...if they are, it is only because our panty-waisted, lilly livered, politically correct infested "officials" are allowing it.
"We the People" are being forced day by day to become personally involved....
...if the "officials" will not enforce immigration laws....
...and refuse to make laws which will ensure all Americans that they will never be in danger of living under an Islamic dictatorship of "sharia law"....
...who is left to do it, but us?
Even Europe eventually showed up to fight after ignoring and/or appeasing Hitler’s rise to power for a long time. Same will happen regarding to the threat of Islamic takeover of Europe.
Interesting that the full statement say that a small percent of muslims support the terrorists. The problem is that small percentage is about 80 million terrorists. When you look at it that way, the world is at war. We best start acting like it and when we fight a war, fight it with the intent of winning in a short period of time. Not drag it out for nine years. When we find and arrest terrorist, put them on trial within three months, when found guilty, exicute them within 30 days. If we don’t do this, American people will continue to pay and pay and pay. If we do, do this in a timely manner, the terrorists will know that we mean business. Our politicians need to start standing up and get the job done. Instead of being whimps about the situation. The same goes for our President.

Won’t be for another decade or two. This is going to be a long struggle. Probably going to be a Hundreds Years War.

Absolutely true. The goal of islam is surrender/submission, the moderates do it peacefully by amassing numbers in a given area then demanding society capitulate to their "culture" or else, the radicals do it with violence to begin with.
In each scenario the goal of submission can be achieved...if we let them.

Less than a decade after crashing two airplanes into the World Trade Center they have proceeded to establish their presence in every aspect of life in the US and Europe. They have succeeded in in promoting their Jihadi agenda beyond their wildest dreams. The US has just folded like a wet rag. And they have put in place their Manchurian Candidate.
