TROPHY CLUB, Texas - Administrators at Byron Nelson High School in Trophy Club suspended a 16-year-old boy on Tuesday because his eyes were bloodshot and they thought he might have been smoking marijuana.
The teen said he was not high. Instead his eyes were red because he had been grieving the loss of his murdered father.
Kyler Robertson’s father was stabbed to death on Sunday. His mother honored his wishes and let him go to school on Tuesday to be with his friends.
“I am sure he had a lot on his mind going to school. I had asked him not to go to school,” said Cristy Fritz.
Before returning to class Kyler had to go to the office to get a tardy slip. That’s when school employees accused him of being high because he had red and watery eyes.
Fritz said she got a call from administrators who told her Kyler would be suspended for three days.
“I was pleading with her to understand the severity of the situation, his emotional well being. How could they do this to him at this time? What are the alternatives?” she said.
District spokeswoman Lesley Weaver would not discuss the case with FOX 4, but said when administrators suspect a student is under the influence, a school nurse will observe symptoms like their behavior, odor and their eyes.
The district does not actually test students, though. That’s left to the parents.
Fritz said she was told by the assistant principal that she could have Kyler tested for drugs within two hours and if it was negative he could return to school. She did just that.
Kyler was allowed to return to class after he showed school administrators a copy of his negative test results.
The teen’s mom still wants an apology from administrators and she wants the district to remove the suspension from his permanent record. She is in the process of appealing it.
“We had other things to do this week than worry about a three day window for an appeal, a two hour window for a drug test and my son’s reputation and high school career,” she said.

Every single boy in my high school's top 10 ranked students smoked nearly every single day. And if they actually had to go into class, they used eye drops.
Don't ask how I know but that's the solid truth.

Another perfect example of why the public education system in America needs to be dismantled and start over. It has become nothing more than warehousing run by bullies. And that’s the nicest thing I can say.
It is definately an upscale community. Not all of the residents are "liberal". I have good friends who live there. But I am sure there are a number of "loonie lefties" there.

Just imagine, your tax dollars are being given to this person, who enjoys at least a month's vacation each year, is accruing a very large pension, and probably enjoying well above average salary when benefits are accounted for compared to any equivalent private sector position.
And if we try to do anything about it, they'll go on strike. Fire the whole lot and put out a bid contract for private companies to do the job.
There has to be more to this story. Maybe the kid already had a reputation at this school and the administrators acted accordingly.
It also seemed strange that he would want to go to school right after his dad was murdered. This is not passing my smell test.

Never, ever send a child to a “PUBIC” school.
I had one child, and she never spent one day in a public school.
Today’s public schools are nothing more then indoctrination camps to turn kids into little red diaper doper baby neo-Marxist.
That degree they got doesn’t mean their smart. It just means they had the money to get the degree. Also, it doesn’t mean they have any common sense. This is a perfect example of what is wrong with public school educations any more. All they are are babysitters. The schools are just indoctrination centers for the left. These kids are not prepared to join the real world when they graduate. We need to start weeding out idiots like these jerks appear to be and start getting teachers that care about teaching.

Maybe it’s just possible that the kid really did smoke some weed before school and used the excuse of going to school to get out of the house to smoke some weed. Just saying.
And how much support can you get in 5 minutes between classes?
If I was the kid’s mother I would sue the shit out of them.
