Obama's electoral coalition is crumbling (LA Times is dumping on Hussein Alert)
Los Angeles Times ^ | September 11, 2010 | James Oliphant and Kathleen Hennessey

Nearly two years ago, the political world could only marvel at the breadth of voter support for Barack Obama.

The new president had won over voters once thought to have abandoned his party for good. He'd found new reservoirs of support among groups many thought were tapped out.

He energized a coalition — made up of blacks, women, Latinos, young voters and large numbers of suburbanites — that some believed would keep Democrats in power for years to come.

A scant 20 months later, the Obama coalition is frayed and frazzled.

A majority of those who voted for Obama still approve of the job he is doing. But that number is eroding.

Surprisingly, support for the president among Latinos, young people and women has dropped as much as it has among groups that were considered less likely to stick with the president, such as white males, according to an analysis by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press.

Support among suburbanites has dropped dramatically too, surveys show, while African American voters remain Obama's most loyal constituency and his fiercest defenders.

[Snip]

... dozens of interviews with Obama voters across five swing areas show that the warning signals are blinking for the president's party.

Obama voters evince little interest in the midterm election. When they express goodwill toward the president, it rarely extends to his allies in Congress. Many do not consider themselves Democrats.

Pew's survey experts routinely ask respondents to characterize the president in a single word. In their most recent poll, conducted this summer, more respondents than ever answered with the word "disappointing."

I’ve been thinking about LBJ recently myself. People keep trying to draw parallels between Obama and JFK, but I think LBJ is the closest.

And LBJ destroyed the black family and put them on welfare for years. Then when he wasn’t able to handle the war he inherited, he just didn’t run for another term.

I’ve no doubt all this power wasn’t all the fun Obama thought is was going to be.

By the way, I told a liberal LBJ wrecked the black family and she attacked me. But when I told her my reasons for saying so, she backed down and got very silent. It’s the sad truth.

I think you’re right. Hillary smells blood in the water. She’ll go for it.

Definitely. That bit where she came out the other day stating we had too much debt the day after Obama said he was going for another stimulus - those were the gauntlet.

The Clinton’s are politicians without peer. I’m just watching to see how they are going to manage displacing Obama without sectioning off the blacks from the Dem party.

Blacks vote dem and nothing has ever stopped them, but if Hillary muscles Obama out the wrong way that just may be what ends that.

I'd bet money that the same could have always been said about George W. Bush, yet somehow the LA Times never phrased it that way during his administration.

He taught a little? Sat for congress, and stepped out before two years were up. No executive experience. Never even was a mayor, let alone a governor. Never ran a thing in his life. Never ran a business. Just what did he ever do?

EXACTLY!! These people who voted for him are morons -- they were making fun of Palin for running a small city and standing for VICE-Pres and the Dims had a guy who has done nothing but stand for elections, running for Pres.

The main thing is in this year, ALL republicans must get out and vote, vote out all Dems. The independents will not vote or will vote GOP, while even traditional Dim supporters may not feel the urge to vote for this do-nothing, know-nothing president's party. We can have a super-majority.

Yes...he is very pleased with his “accomplishments”.

The electorate seems to be pleased...not so much.

She is going to ignore minority issues. I think the consensus is blacks, gays, illegals, criminals are going to vote for the Democrat no matter what.

Hillary will target the soccer moms and independents who will hopefully vote Conservative this election cycle. Obama lost them, probably permanently.

I am so tired of these fools. Yes, the MSM was slobbering over him, but even a casual observer could see the man had no experience at all. In any job. He’d never done ANYTHING except get into a fancy school.

He taught a little? Sat for congress, and stepped out before two years were up. No executive experience. Never even was a mayor, let alone a governor. Never ran a thing in his life. Never ran a business. Just what did he ever do?

Well, I should write a book.

...the first thing that he accomplished was to cheat on his own political mentor, Alice Palmer, Communist Party USA member, who went once or twice to Moscow and the Soviet Union Communist Party international meetings, and came back to tell America how wonderful the Soviet Union and communism was.

He was her chief of staff.

What does this tell you about the Marxist Communist Obama?

Do you know any other politicians who are chief of staff to an American Communist?

... his next accomplishment was to have her kicked off the ballot using political tricks -— using Communist activist lawyers who challenged at the last moment all her “signatures” for election.

Then he went on the the US Senate using the exact same tricks.

He has never won an opposed election.

I could go on but it is making me sick.

They won’t vote for Hillary. They will punish the Democrat party for forsaking Obama and stay home.

Where was all this immense support zero supposedly received? Yes, he got a lot of votes and won the election, but 53-54% hardly reaches the level of support this article claims.

"Nearly two years ago, conservatives were remarking that the political world and dumbass voters could be bamboozled by Barack Obama."

Isn't that the truth! I'm proud to be one of the 5% who strongly disapproved from the start, as I'm sure the rest of the FReepers are.

Obama is a Harvard educated law professor with a first class temperament. He may be down. But he’s not out. Unless by out you mean out of his mind, because that’s the way he’s behaving.

White money (campaign donations) and white guilt. But I’ve seen numbers that 52% of Whites voted McCaine. That it was blacks, Hispanics, Asians that put him over the top to win with 53% of the vote. Jews are white and voted for him 80%.

But lets face the facts that white campaign donations funded the 0bongo machine. Minorities contribute a lot less. Same as in Europe the white man funds his own demise. (And I’m just a Jewish semi-outsider commenting on this)

Of course 0bama had to win via the Electoral Vote which is more complicated

LBJ’s main albatross was the Vietnam war.

Only a few people realized what an unmitigated disaster the “Great Society” would prove to be.

I’m starting to respect libtards more than I am these so called “independents”. The only thing their independent from is some sort of values system.

*************

They are gullible and highly suggestible. Their values are not that much different from ours, the problem is that they are so docile and easily mislead, IMO.

"A majority of those who voted for Obama still approve of the job he is doing. But that number is eroding.

What a great example of the bias through mis- characterization. By saying "A majority of those who voted for Obama still approve of the job he is doing", most would get the idea the majority of the people (over 50%) approve of the job he has done/is doing. But in reality if 54% of the country voted for him in 2008 and now over half of THEM still approve of him, that means something over 27% are satisfied with him. That's quite different than what the author insinuated in this slanted report.
