If you are truly struggling to find food to eat and pay rent, how can you afford satellite or cable TV? Oh, and I’ve seen quite a few people living in low income neighborhoods driving nicer cars than I do.

I've seen that too. Drive through "welfare" neighborhoods and see ratty houses and nice cars. I'm going to guess that part of it is that many of the "poor" are working off the books as well as collecting welfare.

Depends on your definitons of poverty.

The other day my wife saw someone in the checkout line using their iphone to see what they could buy with their WIC (foodstamps) card.

Welfare enabled many who previously would work and engage in part time criminality for fun and/or profit, to forgo the work and engage full time in their criminality.

Here in the USA we have the worlds fattest poor people. You are more likely to be obese if you are poor than any other economic group. Obesity is the #1 nutrition related problem of the “poor” in America.

Being “poor” in America also means you only have two TV’s, only one or two working vehicles, and you might only have last years I-phone (gasp! The horror!).

I had two customers buying gemstones yesturday...both obese...on their way by plane to the casinos in Nevada from Pa.....both on disability and said so with out hesitation as if they wore that as a badge of honor.

...I got sick to my stomach!

Two neighbors across my street...both on disability...they both work under the table otherwise. Beautiful groomed property, new car and truck every couple of years...completley remodeled homes. You see them mowing thier lawns and hand washing their vehicles. What am I not getting about this picture?

Go figure....
