Cuba to Cut One Million Public Sector Jobs
BBC ^ | September 13, 2010 | Staff

Posted on 09/13/2010 1:09:31 PM PDT by lbryce

The Cuban labour federation said more than a million workers would lose their jobs - half of them by March next year.

Those laid off will be encouraged to become self-employed or join new private enterprises, on which some of the current restrictions will be eased.

It is biggest shift to the private sector since the revolution in 1959.

Cuba's communist government currently controls almost all aspects of the country's economy and employs about 85% of the workforce.

"Our state cannot and should not continue maintaining companies, productive entities, services and budgeted sectors with bloated payrolls and losses that hurt the economy," the labour federation said in a statement.

"Job options will be increased and broadened with new forms of non-state employment, among them leasing land, co-operatives, and self-employment, absorbing hundreds of thousands of workers in the coming years." Free enterprise?

The governing Communist Party has indicated that strict rules limiting private enterprise will be relaxed and many more licenses will be issued allowing people to become self-employed.

Existing private businesses will be allowed to employ staff for the first time.

La muerte a la revolución!

How it must really stick in the craw of Fidel to see this taking place. It seems he no can no longer pretend to be the Marxist, Communist purist he's tried to convey himself as, to the world.

Reality has finally come to the "Worker's Paradise", about sixty years too late. I'm surprised he hasn't choked on the reality of it, knowing what an anathema it has been , still is to him.

Castro, you are a sellout, betrayer to your cause, your precious revolution. So, how does it feel to know that capitalism is, in the end, what finally saves your Cuban a**? Let me laugh at what your revolution has now become.

No no no ... he's a quitter ... just like Sarah ... nya nya .. quitter, quitter ....

I'm blessed to have lived long enough to have seen, with some semblance of comprehension the beginning, the middle and the end of a communist regime.

Friggin' CUBA ... the size of a postage stamp couldn't do it ... Hugo is learning he can't ... and we have a mulatto REALLY gumming up OUR works.

Which is exactly where we are headed (or already are).

They only have 11.2-11.4 million people on the whole stinking island. Their workforce is estimated at only 5.1 million. They are going to be laying off close to 20% of their workforce. On top of whatever is laid off already, (They claim 2.5% but who knows for sure). Even if unemployment only goes to 22.5% that is the stuff that revolutions are made of.

Break out the popcorn this is going to be good. I don't know if it will be up there with Berlin Wall day, but its going to be close. And watching Michael Moore explode will be like whale shaped fireworks.

Throughout the Cold War, Americans were instructed that communism was “fundamentally a more uplifting idea than capitalism” (Andy Rooney). That “most Soviets do not yearn for capitalism or Western-style democracy” (Dan Rather). That Fidel Castro was a “dashing,” “larger-than-life personality” who not only “delivered the most to those who had the least” but who turned his nation into “paradise,” a “peaceable society that treasures its children” (Diane Sawyer, Peter Jennings, Rather again, CBS’ Giselle Fernandez, and Newsweek).

Here's hoping we live long enough to see the same thing in the USSA.

You can thank the mainstream media for trumpeting anything which could cause this country harm!Your daily slime isn’t good enough to toilet train a puppy on!

As an aside to this thread but to illustrate the media’s fall from honor and truth: The Oregonian today strongly suggests that Republican Chris Dudley, candidate for governor, avoided paying Oregon taxes when he lived in Vancouver, WA. How many people know that anyone who works in or earns any money in the state of Oregon pays full Oregon income tax on that money?

Disgusting publication!!@!!!! The only place a body can
get the truth at least most of the time is from FOX News!

Caring Oregonians, please wise up and vote for Chris Dudley for Governor!
