Are You Smarter Than A 1954 8th Grader?

IMO this test should be brought back and not only for 8th graders, but should be mandatory for anyone to pass prior to being registered to vote!

Nevertheless, this definitely answers the question why so many of our children are clueless, and so many of us seasoned citizens actually do have a functioning knowledge of how our govt is supposed to work.

You would have to add a section for all the Czars in addition to the Cabinet members.

All the correct answers about the Constitution in 1954 would be wrong today.

True, plus there would have to be more Cabinet members than this test lists.

On the other hand though, if more Americans really understood and voted for the Consitution rather than party politics, would we even have Obama let alone all his Czars???? Your Czar point affirms why this test is needed!

These tests are given to our immigrants when they want to become citizens. I often think that at least Americans should have to take this test just to see how they do. You never want to have a test to vote. That would be horrible for everyone.

As much as I read, I’d flunk this test.

I carry a copy of the Constitution in my purse and refer to it frequently.

We were in DC for the 8/28 event, I was quietly embarrassed when I couldn’t come up with the number of amendments, let alone what each is and its number.

When i was in 7th grade, all students had to pass a test over the Constitution and operation of government in order to be ALLOWED to pass 7th grade. If anybody failed the test, they were held back in 7th grade, NO QUESTIONS ASKED AND NO EXCUSES ACCEPTED!

God, how I yearn for the good ol' days when people were instructed on the basic tenets of our American rights...

More horrible than millions voting with no knowledge of how our govt is supposed to function?

When I was in High School you had to take a government/civics/constitution class (call it what you will) in order to graduate — if you failed — tough rocks, you had to take it over again.

When my kids were in High School that government class had disappeared into the dust bin of history.

So today, would we be required to know all 15 Cabinet positions and 41 czars?

You never want to have a test to vote. That would be horrible for everyone.

The test itself would not be a problem (Even the great Ronaldus Magnus thought voting was too easy.) The problem is just who will administer and grade the test and therefore determine who will be able to vote.

I don't trust any government employee to do that.

I have often thought there should be a test in order to register to vote. For example:

1.) What is your name? (Maybe 95% would get this right)

2.) What is your sex? (Again, maybe 95% get this right)

3.) What is the number for 9-1-1? (This is the clincher)

You have to score 100%.
