Florida Gov. Crist shifts support on gay rights issues

Continuing his makeover from Republican to independent U.S. Senate candidate, Gov. Charlie Crist on Monday affirmed his support for civil unions, adoption by same-sex couples, and doing away with the military's ban on openly gay soldiers.

Equality Florida, the state's leading gay rights group, called Crist's statement on a range of gay issues "the most comprehensive, pro-LGBT equality stand of a sitting governor in Florida's history."

Crist's Democratic opponent for Senate, U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek, called it "too little too late." He and the Republican nominee, Marco Rubio, noted the governor had backed a 2008 amendment to the state constitution banning same sex marriage, flip-flopped on the military's "don't ask, don't tell policy" earlier this year and opposed gay adoption in his 2006 campaign.

He is a total idiot. To think Independents want sexual chaos and do not believe in Natural Law Theory which is the foundation of this country and societies for thousands of years. Natural rights of children demand a biological mother and biological father to raise them....for their emotional and physical protection. He is denying the foundation of our Constitution.

You can not advocate illogical unions which add to medical costs and destroys the minds of children to be able to reason, use logic and science. Go back to pagan Rome and the orgies......when women were reduced to second class citizens and breeders for the little boys that all homosexual societies use for their pleasure.

(Afghanistan is an example of unrestrained homosexual behavior in society. Handsome little boys are always in danger of being used and then taught to be part of that life style just like in Sparta. Very sick and violent.)

He didn’t “shift support”, he merely stopped hiding his deviancy. (Well, at least most of it.)

Repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” lacks merit in at least three areas. Repeal means institutionalizing threats to the religious liberty of Chaplains and other service members. Homosexuality must also estrange itself from medicine and science in order to fabricate a social justice issue. Finally, arguments maintaining that open homosexuality will not hurt morale declaim the character of military operations.

Jewish, Christian, and Muslim believers find their Constitutionally guaranteed freedom of religion threatened by the repeal. For many followers of desert religions, who send their pastors into the chaplaincy and their believers into military service, homosexual behavior is unacceptable. Instead it resides among the myriad sins entrapping humanity that lives in a fallen world with a fallen nature.

For them foundational scholarship concludes homosexual relationships separate believers from God. The Old Testament, holy to “People of the Book”, speaks of the character, identity, and purpose of God in a manner, which continuously addresses homosexuality. God is spoken of as masculine, and all humans become feminine in relation to Him. In addition to creating all things, God created the single institution of heterosexual marriage as the earthy manifestation of the relationship of the absolute unity and love He seeks with each person. Classical Semitic theology emphasizes searching for, and identifying with God in the spiritual dimension. In order to be “good” actions and thoughts must reinforce the faith commitment to relationship. There are huge numbers of Jewish, Christian, and Muslim believers for whom any subsequent reasoning from scriptures must proceed from that basic understanding. Therefore after repeal, when believers reject homosexuality in counseling rolls or in common life expressions, they would become guilty by popular acclamation of at least cultural prejudice.

Advocates for repeal find foundational medical and scientific credibility in the 1973 decision by the American Psychiatric Association (APA) to remove homosexuality as a mental disorder from its Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM). Removal followed a two year campaign Newsweek described as ongoing disruptive, chaotic attacks on psychiatrists and physiologists. Yet throughout these disruptive attacks, no academic papers were presented at conferences refuting any research previously done.

Eventually onslaughts forced sufficient abstentions and apprehensive responses for a third of APA’s 17,000 plus membership to approve removal. The under-voting and public attacks support the understanding that the DSM is as likely to accumulate political manifestos and marketing brochures as attempts at scientific exposition.

After this decision a new task force was established to ensure perpetual sanctity for the APA action. No research papers would again arise to confirm initial therapy success rates of 30% to 60 %, substantiating that 7 of 10 homosexuals could eventually walk away from the lifestyle forever. This task force would set peer review standards mandating pre-ordained theses, acceptable flexibility in research design definitions, and acceptable human data points. Psychology and Psychiatry chose to relinquish scientific rigor for popular societal and political acclaim.

My Representative presents an argument in favor of repeal, which betrays a basic misunderstanding of the character of military service. He says, “The private, legal sexual conduct of military personnel off duty and off base, whether homosexual or heterosexual, should not be of interest to the Pentagon leadership. The bottom line is that an individual’s performance in uniform is what should count. Sexual contact on base is already governed by the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) - the judicial code that all military personnel are subject to.”

Yet military operations to protect this country are not conducted in garrison, and offer no opportunities for off duty or private time. Operating military personnel, locked in small task oriented units, forward deploy, and continuously face extraordinary stress if not actual combat. These environments are inherently chaotic and brittle, and can only be overcome by totalitarian authority unimaginable in pacific situations. At this point Psychology and Psychiatry should make a meaningful contribution, but their 1973 decision enables base antidotal politics to dominate the debate.

This debate should not veer into secular humanist social justice. The primary issues to consider should be Constitutional religious freedom, and whether any mental disorders can be tolerated within the exceptional human structures needed to defeat enemies unconcerned with social engineering.

China is becoming “Giant Sparta” with the male surplus.

If one goes back to pagan history, women were at the worst status in history. Not even in Traditional Jewish or Christian society (minus corruption and deviation from true principle) it was common for women to be prostitutes for the Gods, and sacrifice their own babies (infanticide and unconstrained abortion sounds quite familiar). Except for learning the historical horrors of paganism, the words Molech and Astarte (Ashtoreth) should not be uttered.

I know that you are correct....and being a woman and having a daughter, I realize that the U.S. was the best place ever to have been born a woman because of Western Civilization which was tempered by Christian theology and aligned with Natural Law Theory. Jews and Christians are the ones who elevated the status of women which then was extended to children.

Marxists have been destroying the family and religion through feminism and homosexuality and that is because they had to do that to destroy this nation and take it over. Weak families...destroy children....who become easily controlled adults.

Perhaps you know this already, but feminism has been hijacked by secular ideology.

“Sweeter even than to have had the joy of caring for children of my own has it been to me to help bring about a better state of things for mothers generally, so their unborn little ones could not be willed away from them.”

Yes...I understood the need for woman’s rights but the 60’s movements combined with the Marxists to create division and chaos. The Progressives took control of the curricula in the early 1900’s and injected moral relativism and took out God and patriotism which were always major parts of U.S. education until then.

Taking women out of the home and putting them into the workforce where they could no longer afford to stay home and raise young children have done grave damage to all relationships....destroying the family and marriage....and seriously damaging the emotional health of their children

I just read an article about medicating 3 and 4 year olds for mental illness. This was unheard of 50 years ago as were millions of boys on psychotropic drugs (when children weren’t ripped away from the people who need to nurture them for mental and physical health).

Separation of children from parents is a Lenin construct. Renaming “day care” to “preschool” is a Marxist construct to create alienation of children (creates mentally ill children), give them to strangers to “educate” when it puts them into intellectual straight-jackets which prevents us from creating the future Ben Franklins, Thomas Edisons, and John Adams....etc.

It is so disgusting to me what type of world we are trying to “create” for a future that looks exactly like Pagan Rome with sexual chaos...no respect for women and children, glorification of sex away from creation but always includes child sacrifice. A complete reversal of Natural Law which even the Roman, Cicero, recognized the fact that laws that go against nature are unjust.

The 3 or 4 year old part was scary, I wasn’t diagnosed as needing some sort of treatment until I was a teen/young adult. These children are young. Some side effects for some children from psychoactive drugs have included a weakening of bone growth. This isn’t for all children, but I am concerned that children at younger ages, who haven’t developed nearly as much, are getting exposed to this. Getting a diagnosis when you’re 12 or in your teens is different from when you are a tott (3 or 4)

Why do politicians ASSUME that supporting the homosexual agenda is instant cash?

Crist is doing this because he is groveling for dollars and there is a meme in fl politics that homosexuals freely give money to campaigns which advocate homosexuality.

“Continuing his makeover from Republican to independent...”

What’s an “independent”?

What’s a “moderate”?

Why do we feel we have to worry about this hugely over-rated, amorphous group of mush-brained, dingy undecideds.

The idea is that relationships, bonding and attachment, are psychologically and emotionally needed for human beings, and if it is prevented in the formative years, the person will be permanently damaged and in need of medication.

The destruction of the biological family was part of Lenin’s plan who created the day care for children who were not even orphans—so women could be equal to men and not bothered with domestic concerns. (it destroys the family unit and is necessary for communes where no one is more special than everyone else.....). Family forms secure and loyal bonds (or should) which creates self-esteem, initiative, and supreme confidence in one’s own ideas and not easily indoctrinated and controlled by others—especially the state.

This separation in daycare was rejected by most people in America and thought to be extremely evil as they thought orphanages was such a sad and evil situation for a child (which it is when you assess the extreme emotional damage to the child.) The natural instinct of women had to be subverted or destroyed by constant conditioning in curricula, the media, and to transfer the thinking from based in science and logic, to one based on Marxist theory.

All parent magazines today, and all media, glorify “working” mothers.....only if the work is outside the home. They claim (falsely) that there is absolutely no harm to a child to be separated from the mother and that strangers are not only equal to a biological mother, but superior in many ways. It is the big lie that is going unchallenged and doing immense damage to children which in turns damages relationships between man and wife because the home life becomes intolerable with mentally ill children.

All intentional—to create a Marxist utopia.

Excellent post. It is amazing that this issue is even being discussed, since it throws all the basic logic and precepts of the United States on its head. Besides all the religious aspects that this policy will impact, I find the fact that it goes against the fundamental founding of this country even more troubling—upon Natural Law Theory and God’s Laws.

I find just the secular argument that homosexuality is a natural act full of non logic and lies. Logic, science, and reason are not possible if you attempt to include such nonsense as such. Of course, the Progressives do not want logic and reason and science to interfere with their conditioning and indoctrination into their “proper way to think”. They want moral relativism to create supreme chaos so we will all demand a nanny state.
