Dems ask stations to remove anti-Kanjorski ad

A national Democratic committee has asked local television stations to stop airing a campaign commercial that attacks U.S. Rep. Paul E. Kanjorski's support of the health care reform law.

In a letter dated Friday to the stations, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee lawyers sharply challenge the accuracy of the commercial paid for by the 60 Plus Association, a conservative-leaning group that bought $465,000 in air time on the local stations starting last week.

"This advertisement is false, misleading and deceptive," the lawyers wrote.

The commercial argues Mr. Kanjorski voted for a $1 trillion health care bill that raises taxes, cuts $500 billion from Medicare and means "senior citizens could lose their doctors" and "their current Medicare plans."

Since the law passed in March, such claims have been at the center of a hot dispute between Democrats like Mr. Kanjorski, who favored the law, and Republicans who opposed it.

The DCCC letter cites fact-checking organizations that challenge the $500 billion in Medicare cuts and the possibility that senior citizens could lose their doctors and current Medicare plans. The organizations include Factcheck.org, a project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania, and Politifact, a project of the St. Petersburg Times in St. Petersburg, Fla. It also cites the American Medical Association and AARP, the nation's premier senior citizens organization and a regular target of 60 Plus criticism.

Tom Kise, a 60 Plus spokesman, said the group will not voluntarily remove the commercial, and the DCCC has no legal right to challenge its accuracy.

"They could try to spin this any way they like, but the fact remains Kanjorski voted for a health care bill that cost a trillion dollars, raises taxes and cuts Medicare," Mr. Kise said.

Mr. Kanjorski's campaign released a copy of the DCCC letter late Monday afternoon. Efforts to reach officials at the stations were unsuccessful.

Ed Mitchell, a spokesman for the Mr. Kanjorski's campaign, said 60 Plus is attacking Mr. Kanjorski because it wants his opponent, Republican Lou Barletta, to win and push its pet project: Social Security privatization.

"It's financed by the pharmaceutical industry. They want Lou Barletta in Congress to end Social Security and do their dirty work," Mr. Mitchell said in an e-mail.

Shripal Shah, a DCCC spokesman, said the group "is launching false attacks on Lou Barletta's behalf because he supported their plan to gamble Social Security benefits on Wall Street."

"Lou Barletta's agenda is wrong for Pennsylvania's seniors, has already been rejected twice, and all the negative attack ads in the world won't prevent it from being rejected for a third time this November." Mr. Shah said in an e-mail.

Shawn Kelly, Mr. Barletta's campaign spokesman, accused Mr. Kanjorski of jeopardizing Social Security by voting for raiding the Social Security Trust Fund for "reckless spending."

"Lou Barletta does not support privatizing Social Security," Mr. Kelly said. "Lou Barletta will be a strong supporter of Social Security."

There is no republican running on Social Security privatization (Even Ryan’s SS plan didn’t call for privatization, just partial personal control).

So the DSCC lied in the letter complaining about falsehoods. And their complaint was also false.

Lou is kicking the s**t out of Kanjorski. The ads are good and they are making a difference. We may get Kanjorski’s corrupt self out of this seat. Good to see the Dims squeel like the pigs they are.

No, but its okay to tarnish a republican with allegations of church burnings, cause that sort of slander supports the demoncrats.

Oh wait, I’ll bet when I read this article and hear the ads, the ads will be more truthful than anything the demoncrats, or rinos for that matter, have put forward in a long time.

“At 2 minutes, 20 seconds into this C-Span video clip, Rep. Paul Kanjorski of Pennsylvania explains how the Federal Reserve told Congress members about a “tremendous draw-down of money market accounts in the United States, to the tune of $550 billion dollars.” According to Kanjorski, this electronic transfer occured over the period of an hour or two.”

I have always thought this jerk knew more than he revealed about this “draw-down” in the markets Sept 15-18th of 2008 just PRIOR to the “elections”/placement of the “Won”. EVERYONE blames Bush for it—I think the “Won’s” puppetmaster had more to do with it, in the hopes it would get his puppet in office.

Let’s NOT FORGET Soros TANKED the British pound years ago-—I think he may have done the same in the USA just before the “placement” of his puppet.

I wouldn’t trust Kanjorski as far as I could throw him.

"If you vote Republican, another black church will burn..."

Seems to me that, even if the ad includes conjecture, the Democrats have no credible leg to stand on.

That is a very well done ad running against Kanjorski...amazingly somber in tone.
