MIAMI -- A Miami family says a hospital mistakenly circumcised their baby even though they repeatedly told staff they did not want the procedure.
Vera Delgado said she told staff at South Miami Hospital several times that she did not want her baby, Mario Viera, to be circumcised last month. But eight days after his birth and without his mother present, doctors performed the surgery even though he was in intensive care.

Inappropriate Laughter,,,snicker,,snicker,,,he came up a little bit short,,,
The government just spent $900k of our money on a study to find a way to teach uncircumcised Africans (the ones actually in Africa) how to wash. The hospital did the kid a favor (and saved us a lot of tax dollars in the future)!
Well at least we won’t have to tax ourselves in the future to provide him with lessons on how to wash himself.
In Nazi Germany that little mistake would have been fatal.
OY doctor! I said, just take a little off the TOP!”
There's something seriously wrong with the staff at this hospital.
The family will sue and hopefully win millions.
An unneeded and unwanted medical procedure is battery. Battery on a newborn in intensive care is beyond disgusting.
I'm all for circumcision if the family want it, but these parents said no repeatedly. Medical personnel do not get to make these decisions over the protestations of the parent. People need to lose their jobs and permanently lose their licenses to practice over this.
Oy! Yes, $400 dollars IS a lot for a wallet,
but when you stroke it, it turns into a suitcase!
Bada boom.
I agree with you for the most part, but no one has the right to order genital mutilation of their child. Circumcision of newborns is never medically necessary. If an adult individual wants to be mutilated, so be it, but very few male adults would choose to undergo that.
Don’t know if you want to or not.
Even though it was a mistake, does the doctor still get to keep his tip?
One of my favorite cartoons has Moses looking up and saying, “Let me get this straight, you want us to cut off the end of our d....?”
Shaky the Moyle?
Uncircumcised male adults should avoid Jewish urologist.
8 days old and his college fund is already fully paid.
I remember arguing with my wife on this point as she was having our first (we did not find out in advance the sex of either one of our children). I can’t remember discussing it for our second.
I did not want it done, but she did. Turns out both our children are girls so it became a non-issue.
So true. The baby obviously had something serious going on or he wouldn’t have been in intensive care. So they decided to inflict further discomfort on him. Cruel.
Makes you wonder why that hospital, or any other for that matter, would ever circumcise an ICU baby.
The pro-circumcision arguments are strikingly similar to those for anthropogenic global warming. Both feature false interpretation of highly flawed data. One thing is clear: Whatever circumcision is claimed to prevent does not manifest itself during childhood or adolescence. If your offspring grow to adulthood and want to have their own genitals mutilated, that’s one thing, but no one has the right to permanently deform his children, any more than he has the right to kill unwanted unborn children. What is removed during circumcision is a large proportion of the sensory nerves of the penis, and skin with an area roughly the size of a playing card. This is not a “little snip.” It is in fact very comparable to the genital mutilation which all now consider outrageous when done to females in Third World countries.
