After helping propel several upstart Republican contenders to recent primary victories, Sarah Palin said Friday that it's time for Republicans to unite now that primary season is over.
The former Alaska governor and 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee delivered a fiery speech to about 1,400 people at the Iowa Republican Party's Reagan dinner, the party's largest annual fundraiser. She noted that the general elections are less than two months away and stressed that Nov. 2 should be the focus of all Republicans.
"This is our movement, this is our moment," she said. "The time for unity is near. It is time to unite and make government work."
Her appearance in the state where precinct caucuses traditionally launch the presidential nominating season drew intense attention, but she found time to joke about it. If she laced up her running shoes, she said, the headlines would read: "Palin in Iowa, decides to run."

The people have been aroused and will donate to and then come out in proverbial droves to vote for real conservative Republicans instead of the 'moderate' squishes that have been palmed off on GOP voters for years, calumniating in the nomination of the hapless ultimate 'RINO', Senator John McCain in 2008, a nomination that gave us the Marxist Obama and the wreckage he's making of our beloved country. No more. Americans have woken up and realized what the stakes are. They are justifiably angry and not in the mood for some self-important GOP power broker telling them who and who isn't is 'electable'. These people are going to be swept away by the conservative tsunami coming on November 2nd. Good riddance!
As the NY Times correctly pointed out, the person in AK in charge of deciding how ballots will be counted is a Murkowski sympathizer, and has openly expressed how liberal the write-in process would be reviewed under their direction - including counting write-ins as simple as “Lisa M.” as clear voter intent to vote for Murkowski.
Ii still think Miller wins, but you need to understand that the Murkowski machine has friends in high places.
I’m certainly not going to unite around the false flag of a pro-choice for states, judicial supremacist, McCain Republican.
And the Republican Party of Iowa can go pound sand.
You know when you have arrived when the MSM no longer feel they have to inform as to who you are. I think Sarah has arrived and just saying Sarah is fine.
They used to have to define Rush as "conservative talk show host". Now it is just Rush. But it took a long time.
Hey, MSM everyone knows who Sarah is. Even MSM liberals.
Murkowski will take her die-hards with her; but like Crist much of her support will come at the expense of the Democrat candidate, as she will be seen as the viable alternative to an “extremist” Conservative candidate.
The worst case scenario is an unlikely Murkowski win. McAdams can't win this thing, and Miller is still the front-runner.
At this critical point I believe many of the old guard and the in crowd of the republican party see the serios threat from conservatives and are more concerned about maintaining their power and their control of the republican party than they are about beating democrats in this election.
If they lose an election to a democrat they can always come back and try again in two years.
If they lose control of the party to the Palin/Tea Party backed conservative, small-government “insurgents” they will be out on their RINO arses.
As a way of protecting their positions within the party, can it be that some the old guard and in crowd are encouraging people like Crist, Murkowski and Castle to mount campaigns as third party or independant candidates?
They would certainly like to stop the growing influence of the Palin/Tea Party backed conservative candidates. One way to do that is to sabotage their campaigns in a misguided attempt to show they are not electable in a general election, thereby discrediting not only the candidates but the conservative movement as well.
I wouldn’t put it past many of the entrenched elitists in the party who feel threatened by this new movement that is out of their control. They have already shown us that there is no act too low or too dirty for them.
Next week we will see if the RINOs are really part of the team. Democratic leader Harry Reid is trying to force votes on illegal immigrant amnesty and Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.
If all Republicans stick together they can prevent Reid from having the votes at all. If they let him have the votes on amnesty and DADT, Republicans could defeat them. But if a few RINOs join the Democrats, then Obama will have two key pieces of his agenda.
I agree with Palin. The primaries are over so now we need to unite. The conservative message has won the day. Wasn’t that the goal? Or is the goal to drive “RINOs” out of the party altogether to the extent we lose the elections? Our debate within the party should be a debate over ideas, not personalities. We now need to garner every vote possible. Now is the time to bring our victory home.
I agree.....
.....But please tell the sore loser RINO's and Rove.
It seems they would rather the GOP lose than go Conservative.
Then I suppose if you write in Lisa Minnie Mouse that will be okay, too....what a crock!!
You’re right....this is from the AK election regs...she can request to be written in as something easier than her current last name.....
(9) the name of the candidate as the candidate wishes it to be written on the ballot by the voter
Rove is going to be okay. He made a mistake on one race but he is an asset in the others.
As for the Castle and Murkowski, forget about them and concentrate on wooing their voters.
Let’s win this election first. We’ll always have some who will cause problems and can deal with them afterward. My gut says that some “problem” Republicans will have a change of heart in the new congress. Those who won’t cooperate will be targeted for defeat next election.
