Visibly sad, Snowe called Castle "an outstanding public servant who was committed to the common good of his state and country."
The longer Snowe talked about the state of the GOP and the Tea Party movement, the more riled up she got.
"Understand, there are a lot of issues that, for example, in the Tea Party that they raise that are legitimate issues. Did we abandon our basic principles of fiscal responsibility? Absolutely. I was arguing those points during the Bush administration," Snowe said emphatically, "I made those very arguments."
"Congress isn't working right and it's not working well, and I share that frustration and anger. They're angry? So am I," Snowe said as her voice got louder, "I'm angry, because I work here ever day and I want things to be different. I'm here to solve problems to make people happy, not to make them sad and angry," Snowe insisted.
And what does Castle's loss tell Snowe about whether there's a place for moderates like her in the GOP?
"Well there are fewer of us so that goes without saying," Snowe said, but then immediately argued that "we can't be endangered if you want to be a majority party."
"It doesn't stand to reason that the Republican Party would want to exclude moderate Republicans if they want to be a majority party. Those are mutually exclusive propositions," Snowe said.
At times, as the Maine Republican talked about this issue, she became exasperated.
"Ideological purity at 100 percent is a utopian world and I don't know who lives in utopia. I've never lived in utopia," said Snowe.

Olympia Snowe used to be a republican- then she drifted
Snowe is wrong to say that out-of-state people control the election. Only citizens of Maine can vote for her. The reality is that she is trying to run to the left of her Republican voters. That’s why she’s afraid of a primary.
How can you hold your head up, telling the Tea Party folks you’re one with them, trashing Karl Rove for not being pure, endorsing a fellow traveler of George Soros and his ilk, and then talk about needing to return to long forgotten principles?
What principles would those be? The endorsed McCain agenda? The comprehensive immigration reform? The LOST Treaty?
Honest to God, if you listen to her closely you’ll get whiplash.
I’m with you on this one C.L., and proud to be able to say it.
Ultimately to our cause... no doubt about it.
Agreed.
I still think Castle will announce a write in campaign, ala Lisa Dogass in AK.
An eye needs to be kept on Collins and Lugar. YellowSnowe is a lost cause.
What kind of hold did Mike Castle HAVE on these people?? He doesn’t seem to have any visible charisma and yet they mourn his loss as though he were some sort of holy man.
I say she waits until the gavel drops. If we get 53 Senators, she'll stay. If we only get 51, she's a sitting and willing target for the Dems.
“Visibly sad, Snowe called Castle “an outstanding public servant who was committed to the common good of his state and country.””
Wrong. Mike Castle was a public servant committed to the common good of Mike Castle, not the state or country. This was evident by his voting record and his personality.
Sounds like she *is* worried. If I were a RINO, I’d be worried.
“Oh well, I guess Im being too harsh. Theyre just two sides of the same coin.”
Being ultimate moderates - they’re right smack in the middle of that coin...;)...standing for nothing ultimately...
Get over it Snowe, he’s a goner:)!!!
“They just don’t get it. Senator Snowe might want to investigate what options she has for her next career.”
But, but she’s a Senator and is VERY powerful.
Term Limits.
“It doesn’t stand to reason that the Republican Party would want to exclude moderate Republicans if they want to be a majority party.”
The minority of the GOP, has been leading around its base, the majority of the party, by the nose for a couple *decades* now. It’s time you adhere to our principles and wishes FOR ONCE.
“Just think. We could have sent Mike Castle to join her.”
And we maybe, just maybe, could have “controlled” the US Senate. We’re such fools to demand a course change to Conservative principles.

Good catch, the nuke button got pressed.
“Tough! BUCK UP! Shut up and support the CONSERVATIVES for the sake of Party unity”
Exactly. Conclusion: The moderates have no interest at all in ‘Party unity’, yet they scream for us to be concerned about it. There’s a word for that.
Hypocrites.
She’s up for re-election in 2012 and I believe polls are already showing her out of favor. If she were smart, she’d retire.
Oh no! There’s a RINO with a silver spoon aimed at us!
