Discovery hostages knew gunman was ready to die
September 18, 2010 - 6:12am
By BEN NUCKOLS
Associated Press Writer

BETHESDA, Md. (AP) - As they lay on the floor of the Discovery Communications' lobby, listening to a gunman James Jae Lee rant about overpopulation, religion and the channel's programming and watching him strap a bomb to himself, two hostages came to the same conclusion: The gunman had no intention of leaving the building alive.

Jim McNulty and Christopher Wood tried to placate gunman James Jae Lee the best they could during the Sept. 1 standoff. They lied about their jobs at Discovery's sister network, TLC, hoping not to fuel his anger.

McNulty prayed for guidance. Wood broke down in tears, then got angry and started to formulate an escape plan. It didn't come off seamlessly _ but they both got out alive and unhurt, as did a security guard who was held hostage with them.

**SNIP**

"He railed against the Constitution. He was talking about how humanity was the filthiest animal on the planet, and the earth didn't need humans," McNulty said. "It just became very clear that he was there either to die at his hands or at the police's."

A handful of people with concealed carry permits, who knew how to use their weapons, distributed through out the building would have chilled this nutcase. Same lesson as Flight 93 - you cannot be a passive victim of this kind of crime.

Lee was one of these types that believe “humanity is a virus infecting the Earth Mother Goddess Gaia”. So at least he was planning on offing himself voluntarily. He was looking to off others involuntarily.

Econuts, lead by example! Eat the gun! Run off a cliff! Just do not impose it on others, just set an example!

Just like the muzzies, envirowackos take their religion of Gaia very seriously.

Wasn’t there a young couple in New Zealand or Australia that killed themselves and their own children, a few months back over Global Warming nonsense?

I got a bone to pick with this story: Why is the perp always a "gunman"? I must hear that word 10 times a week, but it invariably comes from some SRM talking head or other. I never hear a real person say it.

This guy could have been called, more appropriately, "nutcase", "bomber", or even better, "envirowhacko", but no, what we get is "gunman".

It's high time to get fed up and say so, IMHO.

“This guy could have been called, more appropriately, “nutcase”,

60 years ago he would have been called a “Gun-Wielding Lunatic”. Back then ,though, we had hard-drinking, chain smoking MEN reporting the news, today’s publik skool parolees wouldn’t even know WTF “wielding” means, and your editor will probably get a nasty letter from the American Psychiatric Association regarding pejorative attitudes toward the mentally ill/s;)

Murderer is the appropriate term.

So true. For what it's worth, I am a "gunman." (Sometimes.)

Guess that means I should be locked away or shot on sight, hmm?

Media bias takes many insidious forms.
