An hour for a 5 minute phone call? WTF? We bill in blocks of an hour. Just rounding up. I’m sure there are plenty of even more complicated tricks.
One time a fellow worker who was concerned about a legal issue, and the boss wasn’t around, called up the lawyer who did dome legal work for the (small) company, to ask him one simple question. The lawyer said “I only talk with Mr. XX (the boss)” and hung up after the 1-minute conversation. Then he sent in a bill for $40, and the boss was livid and shouted at everyone. We never understood why he was afraid to criticize the lawyer for charging $2,400 per hour for doing nothing, but felt free to shout at the nice ladies. Do lawyers have THAT much control?
