White House: New Woodward book shows 'decisive' president

By Sam Youngman - 09/22/10 10:23 AM ET

The White House says the new book by famed Washington journalist Bob Woodward, "Obama's Wars," paints a picture of an "analytical, strategic and decisive" wartime president and "does not reveal anything new" about the administration's war strategy.

After excerpts of Woodward's book containing explosive revelations appeared in The New York Times and The Washington Post late Tuesday night, a senior administration official responded that the full picture is one of a president asking hard questions to make difficult decisions about Afghanistan — not simply a White House badly divided over strategy.

While the early previews of the book, due out on Monday, focus on intense infighting among Obama's national security team in the lead-up to the president's decision on a strategy for Afghanistan and Pakistan, the official said "the debates in the book are well-known because the policy review process was covered so exhaustively."

"The president comes across in the review, and throughout the decision-making process, as a commander-in-chief who is analytical, strategic and decisive, with a broad view of history, national security and his role," the official said.

Without the book, I already know that he is decisively ignorant.

It’s easy to be “decisive” when you don’t really care, don’t have anything invested in the outcome and just want to get back on the golf course.

Last time I checked a president who just goes along with his advisers and against his gut instincts isn't “Decisive”. Unless the decision they are talking about is deciding to play golf while the world goes into the dumpster.

And how long did it take him to “decisively” decide what to do in Afghanistan???? Months!

He should have named it "Kneepads, how the press sucks up to a president."

He does everything that Woodward exposed against Nixon with his Chicago thuggery, but Woodward's all about the kneepads now.

Woodward’s not a fool - this is somewhat encouraging... or maybe just ‘not as hopeless’...

The book also shows that Mr. Obama is also a superb community organizer.

That’s my secret dream, you know - to go out and organize communities full of felons.

Gosh, what fun!

He is decisively wrong on almost all occasions.

Hitler, Pol Pot and Stalin were all decisive as well.

To state the obvious, the propagandizing Leftist shill Wooodward, is damaged goods.

Where was super journalist, Mr. “All the Presidents Men” during the overtly criminal Clinton administration?
