BOSTON -- Mayor Thomas Menino voiced his outrage about a Hyde Park delivery man's murder at a recent Emerson College event, saying he wanted to slowly torture the suspects.
Some say you shouldnt say it because youre the mayor. Well, Im a human being also, said Mayor Menino on Thursday.
Menino said at the event last week that if he saw the suspects, who he called "hoodlums," in a dark alley, he would want to fight them and torture them slowly.

I’m not listening to the radio this afternoon, but I’d bet even Howie Carr would grudgingly approve. For those who aren’t from Mass, Howie Carr is a well known radio host who makes fun of Mayor Menino, and in particular of his speech patterns, calling Mayor “Mumbles” Menino.
When they catch the perps does the Mayor intend to “share”?
They are “knuckleheads.”
I love marinated and pickled knuckles. Yum yum!
They have the perps. Menino displayed some human emotion and backed off of the comments the next day.
It’s a really sad story- the victim was working two or three jobs to put his daughters through college. Menino knows both of the girls, as they worked summer jobs at City Hall answering phones in his office.
The perps allegedly lured the victim to an empty house with a call for a pizza and allegedly killed him for something like $120. They ended up catching them because the girl doing the calling apparently left her real phone number with the pizza shop.
Sad, sad story and I can’t blame Menino much for showing how upset he was.
Maybe by “torture” Mumbles meant read “War and Peace” to them
We had a lad about 11 who used to ride his bicycle from a neighborhood called Saratoga (about 3 miles away) to our house several times a week.
He came here on his bicycle because it got him out of his neighborhood full of low income housing types and welfare mothers.
Plus, my eldest son would help him air up his tires and fix his bike so it'd ride better.
Then one day around Thanksgiving the kid showed up missing ~ he'd gone for a ride in his neighborhood, but the paper reported he didn't return home. About the time I was calling the police to report his usual trail from his house to ours they found his body in a frozen pond near his home. Someone had murdered him with a screwdriver than tossed him in and it iced over that evening.
Eventually the culprit was caught ~ a pedophile on welfare who lived there and rented out rooms to runaways ~ and he wanted the kid to "do something" and when he wouldn't he stabbed him with a screwdriver.
The pedophile tried to blame one of his other little buddies but it didn't work because fingerprints tell the tale.
The state elected to not execute this guy. The state was wrong.
I know exactly how the Mayor feels today, and how he's going to feel about this event the rest of his life. It doesn't go away.
(Besides, he never said "tortured"; he said "tah-chid". Big difference.)
I really don’t like Menino but I kind of agree with him on this!
Interesting. I’m almost convinced that the mayor would attack ANYONE advocating torture, for any reason...but...it was now someone he knew - and he is (apparently unlike The Loser) HUMAN. So now torture is fine - and the Death Penalty.
If there were some way, some way at all, for LIBERALS to learn what crime REALLY means, without having to lose someone close, that would end many our problems.
